It was leaned up against the door of her hut as if she'd left it there for a brief moment on the way to some other task, only Aly was quite certain she had never owned a Yamani glaive in her life. Her first instinct was to assume that the island had stolen the weapon from Lady Knight Keladry of Mindelan, a woman her mother had understood far better than her own daughter and someone that Aly had been unable to stop envying as a child, before she realized that this glaive was made for someone else. If the light, decorative carvings were anything to go by, it had been made for a craftier girl, one who loved crows. Her beloved black birds were elegantly etched into reliefs all around the top and the butt of the staff, as well as a brief epithet in Yamani Kanji. "The Cunning One."

"Well you're a fine gift," Aly said to the glaive. "Except, you see, there's a problem. I've never fought with something like you in my life." Nonetheless she took the glaive and stepped off her porch, planting the butt into the ground to get a feel for it. At eight feet tall, the glaive stood nearly three feet above her head, the wood heavy and the blade wickedly sharp. As her arms and hands strained to adjust to a new weapon, Aly's eyes lit up. Her understanding of staff fighting was, at best, rudimentary and her understanding of the Yamani fighting arts almost nonexistent. This was nothing like fighting with her knives. This was completely new and different. This was a challenge.

Now in the proper frame of mind, Aly took on a fighting stance and tried to remember the basic staff fighting positions to warm herself up. The crows flocked around her, Junai on the rail of her porch, watching their human in her strange new undertaking.

OOC: Aly's gift is a Yamani Glaive or naginata. If your pup can read Kanji, they'll be able to understand the little epithet carved into the staff.
