Seven cats and two dogs was too much for one snowed in house. When they could all be outside most of the time, Jack had no problem with it, but with them all inside, it was driving him crazy. Dulcita's litter was old enough now to leave their mother. He'd already promised to give a couple away, but that still left him with more kittens than he ( Read more... )

"This is why we can never have kids," Logan tutted, scooping up one of the balls of fluff before it could run out the door.

Call him crazy, but he was oddly attached to the little bastards, and he was kind of sad to see them all go. Flopping down on the couch, he smiled as the smallest of the litter squirmed in his hand and swiped at his nose with tiny claws.

"I like this one," he said. "It's a fighter."

"It scratches me more that you do," Jack pointed out. "We seriously cant keep them all. They're driving me out of my mind."

He had to admit, though, Logan looked damned cute holding the little ball of fur.

Logan lifted the kitten high enough to see if it was a boy or a girl and then laughed as he leaned forward and held it out near Jack.

The cat hissed, a pathetic little noise that was anything but fierce, and the younger man laughed as he flopped back down and let the animal settle in on his chest.

"That's why he's my favorite."

"Why am I not surprised that you like the hellion of the bunch?" Jack laughed. "You really want to keep him? Two dogs, two cats...well have a zoo before long."

"The cats aren't so bad," Logan replied. They clean themselves- feed themselves when they can. Look at him, I bet he'd rarely be home. He's not a pet. He's a thug- and I think he needs to stay with us," he said firmly.

The kitten did have a thuggish look to him, strangely enough, and he opened one eye to look at Jack.

"You're killin' me here," he sighed, shaking his head. There was no way he'd make Logan give it up. As much as he wanted them gone, he could think of a hundred reasons to keep just one...and the look on Logan's face was at the top of the list.

"Okay, we'll keep the thug of the bunch," he said. "He's yours."

Logan grinned, Stroking the kitten until it started to purr.

"I think I'll call him- Captain. He's got the stripes for it. ...and the temper," he added, flashing Jack a playful smirk as the tiny animal got up and arched it's back.

It watched Jack with wide green eyes, and then dug it's claws in as it kneaded Logan's shirt and settled back in for a nap.

"Oh, come on," Jack chuckled. "Anything but that. Name him...Thug. Or, I don't know. We're on an island. Name him Triton or something. I guarantee he didn't earn his stripes."

Rolling his eyes, Logan let out a put upon sigh. "Fine, fine- what about... Niner?" he suggested after a moment, not sure if Jack would get the reference, but smiling a little at the name.

After all, Logan had never been ashamed of being an 09er, and the cat looked like he would have been right at home with the mean girls and the rich boys.

Jack laughed loud and long at that and shook his head. "I don't even know what that means," he managed through the laughter. "But okay. Anything's better than Captain. Niner. If you say so."

"It's what they called us back home," Logan replied quietly. "09'ers."

His laughter faded away to nothing more than a soft smile. He moved around to join Logan on the couch, nudging him with his hip until there was enough room that he wouldn't fall off.

"09'ers, huh? I still don't get it...but I like it. Niner's a flyboy designation. You know- Bravo Niner Niner, this is ground," Jack grinned. "Name him what you want. He's all yours."

Logan moved enough to give Jack room, and grinned as he put his feet up on the other man's lap.

"I like it, I think it suits him," he decided, watching as the kitten got up and trotted down his body and over to Jack. He looked up boldly at the other man, and let out a meow that was more of a squeak.

He did it again, and then once more, as if he was shouting at the other man or telling him what to do.

"He's as demanding as you are," Jack said dryly, rubbing his palm over the cat from head to tail, squashing him down a little. He was definitely the roughest of the tumbling mass of babies. Jack knew he could take it.

"He's the last one. No more. No pigs, no horses, no birds, no...anything. Promise."

"What if there are dragons later? You can't deny me a dragon. Or a pony. Or a..."

He trailed off and flashed a grin.

The kitten made a small sound of protest as Jack squished him, and then rolled onto his back, grabbing Jack's hand with all his claws and biting him with tiny teeth.

Jack rolled his eyes and grabbed the cat, jostling him gently just to wind him up. The claws and teeth were sharp, but hardly painful.

"No dragons. You can go play with the Weasley twins' monster if you need one of those so bad," he said. "And no ponies. I've had enough horses to last me a lifetime."
