Seven cats and two dogs was too much for one snowed in house. When they could all be outside most of the time, Jack had no problem with it, but with them all inside, it was driving him crazy. Dulcita's litter was old enough now to leave their mother. He'd already promised to give a couple away, but that still left him with more kittens than he could control. They were work to feed, work to clean up after, and they were a nuisance when it came to bedtime. More than one morning he'd found he couldn't move his legs because two were curled between his knees on the blankets and one had an affinity for licking his face to wake him up. Dulcita had never been so demanding. He was sure Linus and Sugar were getting sick of them, too.

It was time. Jack gathered them up in a box and carried the squalling, wriggling mess of them to the compound. He couldn't turn them out in the snow, but he couldn't keep them. Taking them someplace public would help get them to good homes...he hoped. As soon as he sat the box down, they were jumping out and investigating their new surroundings. With all the people coming and going, he hoped that he'd find someone to take them into their care.

"Hey, hey...no scratching," he said, pulling one away from the corner of the overstuffed sofa. He barely had time to get that one to quit before he had to snatch another one up before it disappeared into the Christmas tree. Jack sighed. This was going to be a long day.
