The Wheels on the Bus

It perhaps wasn’t the strangest thing Frank had ever found in a shower cubicle. He finished wrapping the towel around his waist, brows knitting together as he stepped back. The yellow door disappeared from view and he waited a few moments before stepping forward again.

Yep. Still there.

Back and forth, back and forth, eyes narrowing further each time ( Read more... )

Stephen walked up from the basement and paused in the doorway of the rec room.

"Isn't that kind of large to carry around everywhere?" he asked, as if a smaller door would make total sense to lug around.

An incredulous gaze landed on Stephen and Frank rocked to the side to glance behind Stephen towards the basement stairs.

"Were you down there the entire time?" While Frank had been calling for a little help?

"I was getting a new tie," Stephen pronounced proudly, smoothing the front of it down. He paused. "Why?"

Frank took a deep breath instead of answering, hefting the door back upright when it began to topple over. He knew why the island had given it to him but he wasn't in the best mood to deal with it today.

"I'm looking for a bus. Have you seen one?"

It wasn't everyday he saw a guy lugging around what appeared to be a big yellow car door. Not even on an island where the strange and unusual were relatively commonplace.

"Theft deterrent?" Michael asked, ignoring his sketching for the time being. "I think bringing the steering wheel with you would have been more effective. And easier on your back..." He could only assume that the door belonged to the only yellow vehicle he'd seen on his way up to the compound from his hut. "I could be wrong, though."

"Fashion accessory," Frank countered, twisting the door this way and that to let it catch the light. "I'm having a long, hard rethink about the pants though. I have a feeling they clash." He gave the other man a small smile, eyes squinting a little as he decided if he knew him or not.

"If it helps any, I think yellow's a difficult color for anyone to pull off, whether or not a car door is involved." He wasn't sure there were actually too many instances where a car door would be involved. Discounting now, of course.

"Did it just... show up? I hear that happens quite a bit around here." Heard and experienced firsthand not too long ago.

Frank gave a nod of confirmation, raising his eyebrows. "In the shower, no less." He wasn't sure discovering someone had sneaked in there and deposited the door while he was naked would have been of much comfort either though.

"It's from home." He scratched his nose, glancing around the Compound in case the rest had magically appeared in the last few minutes. "It actually comes with a bus attached but I have a feeling the door is all I'm destined to receive."
