Two women stood in the dappled sunlight of the archery field, looking like night and day. At first glance, the only thing they seemed to have in common was an interest in shooting at the targets at the far end of the field. One was blonde, the other dark-haired, and their clothing also differed in style and era. The bows each used were nearly ( Read more... )

Garak was not normally found anywhere near the archery butts since he had little to no faith that he would not be hit either by someone with limited proficiency or someone with too much proficiency, but today he was in the vicinity. There were a few plants that might serve as dye sources near the field, and that did interest him. He wasn't at all convinced that the box on the lower level would continue to provide decent fabric and had decided he ought to explore creating his own. It was primitive work, but he was in a primitive place ( ... )

"Garak," Surreal said, returning the nod as she lowered the bow. Her quiver was empty again, the targets tightly feathered with arrows. Her aim had suffered a little, but at least the shafts covered an area that still was smaller than a human.

"Enjoying the view?" she teased lightly.

Her aim was not as good as he might have expected it to be given what little he knew of her past, but it was far better than others might have been. He hadn't used that particular weapon himself in quite some time, not since his basic weapons training in the Order, and suspected he would be rather poor at it, though he did not intend to test that suspicion.

"I do find that the environs are quite favorable," he agreed smoothly, which could be taken as a compliment to her or an observation on the flora and fauna that surrounded them. Which interpretation she chose was entirely up to her, but it would be interesting to see what it was.

Surreal gave a slow smile at that, just a hint of flirting in it. "I'll admit the flowers are worth it," she purred.

It was always fun to fence words with this particular male, he reminded her a little of Lucivar, or maybe Chaosti, but with all the rough edges smoothed away or hidden behind layers of soft cloth. "Don't you think it's better with someone to share the experience?"

"Surreal," she said, with polite coolness as she placed her hand in the man's. She glanced over his shoulder at a pair of amber eyes watching them from the shadows, but shook her head at the wolf to tell him he could stay.

"I suppose I do tend to stay away from large gatherings. For Graysfang's sake, of course." She smiled as she spoke, and glanced over at Sonya to see if she would explain further.

Sonya was about to notch her last arrow when she heard Zell call out, as cheery now as he was at the party. Sonya had never heard of a warrior this..good humored-there was Johnny Cage, but up until the tournament he'd never actually killed anyone.

She followed Surreal's gaze before turning to Zell. "...Most people don't take too well to seeing a wolf in that sort of public place, with a crowd and children. Not that Greysfang would actually attack kids, but they wouldn't know that."

I recognize the blond woman as someone who's friends with a couple of my men, though we've never formally met. The dark-haired woman I don't know, and I stand at a respectable distance, observing and appreciating their talents at archery. I myself have never attempted the sport.

[either just Sonya or both, whichever you prefer!]

The last of Sonya's arrows hits the center of the 'X' before she decided to take a short break, the drawing on the long bow finally making itself known on her right arm.

She felt someone watching them and turned, recognizing the man as one Maj. Winters.

"Afternoon." Sonya had a small smile on her face, whether from the chance to finally meet the man officially or just from the archery-it was hard to tell.

Lyra dropped down out of the trees a fair distance behind both women, her own quiver strapped to her back, bow clutched lightly in one fist. Dressed for training - red spandex shorts and a nondescript tank top - she made no attempt to surprise either one. Lyra knew her mentor to be near impossible to catch off guard and the other woman she would not be so rude as to underestimate.

Not yet, anyway.

As she came up behind them, her trainers crunching along grass, Lyra nocked an arrow, one eye squinted for aim. The arrow flew at one of the other four unused targets only when she came up beside the two women, the point hitting with a dull thunk a few inches to the right of the X. "Bugger," she grumbled, scowling at her target. "Bugger all."
