For someone stranded on a desert island, Marissa finds a surprising amount to keep her busy most days. Most of her time is split between school work and her boyfriend, a reasonable division for a seventeen year old girl. Not often, but every once in awhile, she finds herself with an evening free for one reason or another, and isn't quite sure what to do with herself, the quiet thrum of the island stretching out before her with possibility.

After leaving a note for Ray, she'd wandered down to the beach with a towel but no specific purpose, had ended up at the end of the dock, long, skinny legs hooked over the edge to trail toes in the slowly ebbing water. She's spread out on her back in her bikini, the shell necklace Brad had given her cupped in the hollow of her neck, eyes open and watching the changing color of the sky.

Most days, she tries to not think about home too much, but in quiet moments like this one, she realizes she owes it more than that, more than trying to forget. It wasn't all bad, not by a long shot.
