One of the first things that Chase had unpacked when she'd moved into her new office in Gotham was her punching bag. She found healthy physical expressions of aggression to be the best antidote for stress, and especially when she was working with the police department in D.C., spending her days interviewing murderers and child molesters and ( Read more... )

Maybe Lloyd should have thought twice before going near a chick who was kickboxing an imaginary friend.

But he hadn't.

"Owwshit!" His hands shot to his nose, and blood started to flow in a matter of seconds; not in fountain quantities or anything, but still impressive enough. Lloyd squinted, pinching his nose to try and stop the bleeding. In time, he might find this whole thing funny, but right now, it just hurt like a bitch.

"Jeez Doc," he mumbled miserably, "wassit s'posed to be, shock therapy?"

"Oh, fuck," Chase blurted before she could stop herself, and her hands were still in a defensive position before she realized what had happened. She dropped them. "Lloyd - oh god, I'm so sorry... your nose..."

Without even thinking she she fumbled her tshirt off (she was wearing a sports bra underneath) and handed it to him to soak up the blood.

"'s okay, don't worry 'bout it," Lloyd muttered, blinking rapidly to get rid of the sting in his eyes, so he could maintain some kind of manly composure. Funny, no matter how many times you got punched in the nose (and Lloyd had lost count way back), you never really got used to it.

This was the first time it had come with a bonus striptease, though.

"Thanks," he said, managing a smile. He took the shirt and pressed it to his nose. "That's a mean right hook you got there. They teach you that in shrink camp?"

Chase bit her lip; she couldn't believe she'd actually given him a bloody nose. "Um... kickboxing," she admitted. "A little bit of karate when I was younger. Of course, my healthy expression of aggression isn't supposed to involve actually hitting someone."

Lloyd wasn't sure what a healthy expression of aggression was, exactly. Punching at air didn't seem all that satisfying to him. Then again, punching him was an idea he approved of even less.

"Well, I've had worse," he assured. He ran his free hand up and down his nose; nothing broken, but this motherfucker was gonna bruise. "Something in particular you're feelin' aggressive about?"

"Aggressive... no, just tense. The stress of being stuck here, I guess. I'd prefer to have a punching bag. I really am sorry... let me make it up to you. I'd offer to buy you a drink, but that doesn't really hold much water here, does it? I could make you a cup of coffee..."

"That sounds fair," Lloyd agreed with a small grin, thinking it was a reasonable offer. Carefully, he lowered the blood-soaked t-shirt, to check the status of his nose -- well, the bleeding was over, looked like, but it was still pretty fucking painful. He doubted Chase was eager to have her shirt back, so he held on to it for now. "Place takes a while to get used to, I guess. You don't still think it's all a delusion, do you?"

"Ah... no, I suppose I'm rather past that point now. Or rather, I've come to the practical decision that even if it is, it's stretching out for long enough that I may as well live my life anyway. So it's a bit of a moot point." She nodded in the direction of the compound. "Shall we?"
