She'd almost gotten there. She could tell, her fingers flying over the keyboard of her mini-computer, the click of her nails on the keys almost seeming to echo in the rec-room. Of course there were other noises; people talking, the clunk of billiard balls hitting one another. However, installed on one corner of the couch, legs tucked underneath her, a redhead sat surrounded by books. Her glasses perched on her nose, she barely blinked as she flipped pages with one hand, eyes skimming before she continued to type.
So close. She could feel it, the tiny screen (so small it would be jealous of an eee pc) filled with text. She didn't know how she'd actually manage a network from this damned thing - not that she didn't have the best minicomputer that money (not her money, of course) could buy, but still. It was like using a toy gun when you needed a bazooka - or at least a potato gun.
At that thought, Barbara slipped her fingers under her glasses, pinching the bridge of her nose. She'd studied what she thought was English-Gallifreyan manuals til she was blue in the face, and she still hadn't been sure what she'd been reading. She could remember all of it - that was one of her best qualities, she supposed, but... it still was a long time coming. Weeks. Months, it seemed like.
What she needed was a cup of coffee. She shifted the laptop off her lap, reached for her chair when her hand hit something hard. Something hard and black and big, the box sporting a jaunty red bow and a tag that clearly said 'For Barbara' in loopy, beautiful script.
She knew that box. She didn't even need to see the CRAY stamped on the side to know that brand, and she actually made a sound that resembled a girlish squeal even though she'd never admit it.
OOC: Babs has her NDPD present, geeks, lab people, and future technology seekers rejoice! Any hardcore comp geek worth their salt (as well as Fed folks) probably know what the computer is. While the box is about 2' x 2' x 3', it does weigh about 150lb, so she's going to need some help. Great time to meet her. :D
