When she'd started having trouble getting to sleep some nights, Ilse had taken to walking. Sometimes she hit the Compound, sometimes she just walked until she was tired enough to sleep, and now that she'd worked through some of her issues with the water she'd started swimming [in the pool by the small waterfall, not the ocean, not yet] a little. Alain hadn't been back to the tree house all night, and the paths were lit well enough that she could walk without feeling

uncomfortable in the dark. She didn't fear the dark like so many of her peers had, growing up. Even after what had happened, she didn't fear the dark, and it felt these days like only the slight strain in her chest when she worked too hard reminded her of the days when she'd first arrived. Thank God.

The island had gifted her with a bookshelf [a bookshelf she was almost embarrassed to find, because damn it was going to be heavy when she moved out, and she was pretty sure she knew which strapping young men she was going to have to conscript into moving it for her], full of books she'd read and ones she hadn't, and it was with a new book tucked underneath her arm [one on Psychology, no less] that she made a slow walk in the dark with the thought of taking up a couch in the Compound until she got sleepy. She almost wished she found the reading duller than she did, so that it'd put her to sleep.

After a cup of tea and something sweet from the kitchen, Ilse folded her legs underneath her on the couch and set to work reading. She didn't notice when she dropped off to sleep. She did notice waking up though, because she jumped when she heard a crashing noise from across the room. Wiping her eyes blearily she caught a glance at the clock. It was past midnight, but not long past. She stood up, walked to the wall, and peeked around the corner.

"Everything," she cleared her throat, "okay?" She smiled sleepily.

[Miss Cookie couldn't sleep, and she might be groggy but she's still Miss Cookie. Old and new friends all welcome, a good time to meet her even if it is late at night! I'll be up for a while yet tonight, continuing tags tomorrow until slowtime between 3 and 8 p.m. EST! I like ST/LT just fine]
