Interplanetary Travel 101: This Is Not Kansas

She checked the seals on her Hazmat suit a few more times and then made sure the hoses were working properly, which they were. Lam was fairly confident the suit was sound -- she did this every time -- and stepped up to the shimmering ripple of the gate, her hands full of equipment to deal with just about anything save major surgery. SG-12 was still in there somewhere and in need of just her kind of medical expertise. That and Landry owed her a trip offworld. Several times over, she thought. Her suit radio crackled.

"Doctor?" came General Landry's voice. "Is there something wrong?"

"No sir," she replied crisply, "just making sure I'm sealed up tight."

"Get a move on it, then. Your team's through already and SG-1's due back any moment." She turned to glance at him and frowned though the glare of her faceplate but gave him a thumbs-up. She turned back around and walked straight through the maw of the stargate. Carolyn Lam could remember her first trip through and how she had come out the end feeling like utter crap. Those days were far behind, now. It was amazing what the human body could learn to tolerate.

Re-materializing was different for one startling reason. She was on a beach. She was on a beach and there wasn't a Stargate anywhere. Lam frowned and set her supplies down to hunt for her team radio.

"This is Doctor Carolyn Lam to SG-12 and anyone on my medical team," she began with a sigh. "Please respond." Static. She grimaced and sat down on the bright yellow box that contained various supplies. The beach was deserted and she took out a scanner and probe to make sure the area was safe, breathable, and uncontaminated. It was. Where was the M.A.L.P., anyway? And where was the bomb site?

There weren't even any tracks in the sand.

"Great," she said and shook her head before popping her helmet off. "This is definitely not where I'm supposed to be."

She raised the radio and tried again.

"Lam to any and all SGC personnel, respond." There was nothing but crackle and she sighed, carefully putting the antibiotic case down and dumping the rest of her gear. At least she had the survival kit, but what she really wanted was her change of clothes -- something another team member, Major Paul Tomlin, had grabbed just before she'd stepped through the gate. First rule? Never let someone take your personal backpack. Well, that was something for next time.

She stood, arm cradling her helmet, and shook her head.

((First person gets to explain the Island. Second and on, ya'll get to find her after the first has taken place and she's been briefed on TR itself. Yay for no tedious newb explanations, right? She'll either be beach wandering or near New Atlantis, I think. And in need of coffee. [and happy her antibiotics are safe] ST, LT; I'm not picky. I might be slow tagging back due to exhaustion, myself, but it's all good.))
