Karen hadn't exactly been sociable or even in a good mood for the past week or so, but she figured losing two friends - one of them her best friend - in the span of a few days was excuse enough. If it wasn't, she didn't really care. She was tired of losing friends, tired of knowing she was going to lose someone every now and again no matter what she did, and tired of not being able to do anything about it but be unhappy.

Being unhappy and generally down got really boring after a while, though.

She hadn't gone back to the still since Paige disappeared, and Karen wasn't sure she would anytime soon. Paige had done most of the real work, and Karen had been there for when she needed an extra hand; all they'd really done whenever they were out there was get tipsy off the fumes and before they knew it, hours would have passed and they'd have a whole new batch of moonshine to barter and haggle and get Gideon to read crappy vampire novels for. At least she had the memories, whatever they were worth.

While she set up a stall like they'd always done at the market, it just wasn't the same without Paige. There was no one to entertain her while she sat, or hold the fort down while she went off to get lunch, or to help come up with random ideas for trading. All she had was a stack of comics and other people to watch.

Her heart just wasn't in it, and Karen figured if anyone didn't have something to barter for, she didn't really care. As far as she was concerned, All Items Must Go, even if she had to give it away. Getting rid of alcohol shouldn't be too hard.
