"Lizzy!"
Jane brushed the droplets of rain from her face as she charged through the next clearing, in a desperate effort to locate them. For it was not just Lizzy she could not find, but it was Mr. Darcy as well and she would not believe that they had simply played some furious trick upon her, but not an item was left and nothing was to be found.
Lydia was in the care of Dr. Chase, for she had first seen him and in her desperation, could not think of anything but to go looking. She had affixed hat to her head and her blue coat wrapped tightly about her, but it was still pouring and she was still looking.
"Lizzy!" she cried out once more, emotions breaking through the well-constructed barrier she so often his behind. "Mr. Darcy! Please!" she begged, voice strained and controlled all at once.
It was not a human voice that replied to her, for Jane was beginning to think that such a thing was impossible. That she would never hear Lizzy's voice, nor see Mr. Darcy and never be allowed to meet her new niece or nephew.
It was the braying of a horse in her path that caught her eye.
Her horse, as soaked as it was the day she rode to Netherfield in a rain so like this one and it was not the droplets that caused her vision to blur as she looked upon the white steed. Jane felt panic gripping her, that horrible loss and grief assaulting her at once as she stared forward at her horse and sneezed heavily as the rain began to set into her bones and give her a great chill.
"Lizzy, please," she cried out once more, her voice barely audible anymore and her trembling fingers found the mane of her horse, twining in with the hair as she began to walk side-by-side along the paths, refusing to give up her search, despite whatever snifflings and sneezings she might be experiencing.
