He had spent the past six months being human.
It was raining.
Those two facts didn't appear related at first glance, but it was the two of them combined that led him to a clearing by the river, around the time twilight usually manifested. Most people seemed inclined to stay indoors, shielding themselves with additional layers when they did venture outside. It was the sensible thing to do, he supposed, but safe courses of action rarely appealed to him. This wasn't an opportunity he was willing to miss. So he started removing articles of clothing, one by one, until there was nothing left to take off. Maybe it didn't sound like the logical response to the circumstances. But it was.
Perfectly logical.
Or maybe he was just glitching.
The moon was a thin slice of light in the sky, providing more atmospheric lighting than tangible illumination. He wondered, briefly, whether a howl was required of him. Then he recalled howling was more of a werewolf thing.
Killer robots didn't howl. Unless it was Blade Runner.
It was cold, so he ran. As fast as he could. Mud clung to his feet. He cut his foot on a rock and barely noticed. He almost forgot to breathe.
He stopped once there was enough heat to counter the cold, once his muscles ached, once he couldn't tell sweat and rain apart - once he was burning from the inside. He stood perfectly still. A drop of water halted at the tip of his nose. His lips were wet, and he sampled the water with his tongue, letting his eyes shut.
He remembered melting and burning and losing shape. He was solid now - solid but the rain that engulfed him.
He remembered dying.
It was still cold - his skin was nearly painfully sensitive to touch - and the rain kept falling.
Eyes closed, he felt a slow grin forming across his features. He should have been missing something. Right then, he didn't. He stood there, focusing entirely on the sensation. Every part of him felt human, but he felt something else.
He felt alive.
[His 6 month human-versary. Perfectly good time to meet him, as long as you can handle some nostalgic terminator nudity... in the rain. :D ST/LT welcome.]
