Strip & Jazz Club Auditions
"Oh, honey, Bill gave me an idea for the club's name," Saffron said, turning to Warrick. The musicians were due to arrive any minute, and they were sitting in the rec room waiting for them to start trickling in. "The Catscratch Club. What do you think?"
I roll it around in my mind, listening to how it sounds. The Catscratch Club. "Yeah. I like it," I say, nodding slow and watching her eyes. "Why that?" From how she said it, it sounds like it might mean something and I figure I oughtta know.
"There was a girl here, before. Her name was Mimi," Saffron explained. "She was friends with a few people still here on the island. Roger, one of the musicians auditioning, is really good friends with Bill, and they were both close to Mimi. Roger and Mimi were actually from the same place, and Mimi danced at a club called The Catscratch Club." She paused, took a breath. "Mimi died, back in March." She still remembered how it had affected Bill.
"Sounds like it might be good for a lot of people." I run my hand up her arm and squeeze her shoulder, 'cos I figure she's feeling it more than she's showing. "You mind if I give the downstairs a name, something from home?" It feels like I should, y'know?
Saffron smiled softly, covering his hand with her own briefly. "I think that's a great idea," she replied. "You should make the place your own, give it a piece of the place you love. It's fitting."
"It hasn't come to me yet, but it will." I smile, then, and lean in close enough to kiss her. "Knew you'd get it...partner."
Saffron's smile deepened, and she threw Warrick a playful wink before closing the marginal distance between them to press her lips to his, lingering there for just a moment before sitting back again. "I think this is going to go well," she said, and they both looked up as Roger walked into the room.
