It was a nice day out. Cool, cloudy. Not storm clouds, just big fluffy white ones that were good at keeping the sun from beating down too hard.

Ray felt kinda like a soccer mom or something, walking around the island with Edward in a stroller, the thing decked out in little cartoon animals. It was a pain in the ass, too, and thank god for the new pathways or it would've been close to impossible. He ended up at the baseball field Buck was building.

Ten minutes later and Ray had Edward set up under the shade of a tree, propped up so he could see what was goin on. Edward gnawed on a teething ring in complete contentment while Ray tossed the game closet's lone baseball up, letting it fall back into his hand.

"The first thing you need to know about baseball is that the Yankees suck. Everybody knows that. The White Sox suck. The Cardinals especially suck, they suck the hardest," he said to Edward, tossing the ball up and down.

Ray stepped up to where he imagined the mound was going to be. "Okay, now for the game. Just, uh, pretend there's other guys around. You got nine fielding positions. You got your pitcher, that's me, the batter way out there and the catcher. Next you got first, second, and third base, and the shortstop," he said, pointing out the positions of the invisible baseball players around him. "Left field over there, center field, right field."

"Now I'm gonna wind up, so watch my form here."

Edward kept gumming the toy.

Ray threw the ball, pretending the invisible batter was counting the rotations of the seams like Fraser said to. The ball sailed, and eventually fell to the ground, rolling a short distance before coming to a stop.

"...Another good thing to know," he said to Edward, "is it looks better with actual players."
