With five elections under their collective belts, it was tradition now that once the election results were posted, the island (or most of the island, anyway) took the day off to enjoy a celebration. The kitchen crew worked for hours to make sure there was ample food and drink piled on tables both inside and outside the compound, and the music had ( Read more... )

He needed to find the child.

There were a lot of things he needed to do, but first and foremost? Find. The child. Before she got herself into the kind of trouble he knew she was capable of.

But while he was finding the child, it couldn't hurt to snag some of those things that looked suspiciously like french fries.

Ainsley nearly bumped into someone as she was angling her way through the party, tugging idly on her beige jacket. She was aiming for the food and she had wound up hip-to-leg. "Rollie, I'm sorry," she apologized, when she sighted who it was. "I do pity the people who get between me and my food," she offered.

"Seems to me we've had this conversation before," he says, grabbing the nearest dessert and handing it over. "Will this tame the beast?"

"Well, I do hope not to bump into you any longer, before you start thinking ill of me," she admitted, a bit anxiously as she took the dessert with eager hands. "And this will do just fine. What were you trying to grab?"

Jane smoothed her palms over her linen dress, finding it quite warm in the heat of the Island and she felt that she could truly enjoy herself, however, with the spirits of so many high about her. She closed her eyes to hear the thrum of well-wishes before making her slow way through the party, pretending as though she were back in Meryton for one more dance.

Marian did not know the lady well, no more than her name and a few brief greetings. Still, she smiled warmly at her as they passed, nodding her head in welcome. "It is a lovely night for this, isn't it?"

Jane curtsied properly, holding the skirt of her dress with the elegant motion. "It is very beautiful, yes," she agreed, her voice clear with the joy of her pleasure. "I am even more glad that my Lydia is being watched until I return home."

Marian tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing as she thought... Of course, "Your daughter?" She asked, thinking that she had seen the woman with a child. "It would be good to have a night away."

Chuffed is about the only word for it and Daisy's just about pleased as punch and chuffed as cherries because everyone is so happy and celebrating and Daisy's always found it's easier to fake it when everyone else isn't asking questions because they're preoccupied with their own happy, happy joy.

So she fakes the smile as always and puffs herself up to be larger than life and that's just how Daisy Adair is when she arrives to the Council party looking her very best.

Five elections. Five. Sometimes, Chase wondered what his life would have gone like if he'd stayed back home and sometimes he wondered if he even cared any more. But still, five elections was something to sit back and think about, about how very long he'd been some Island version of himself.

He was idly surveying the table, as if judging each dish and drink for which he wanted next. And he kept thinking 'five elections' over and over.

Karolina found herself sitting alone at the party. She had told Chase and Gert that she was going to go over and check it out, see a few faces, and place a few more names on the island. Whenever anyone made eye contact with her she smiled, but didn't approach anyone. She was uneasy around all these strange grown-ups, despite the fact that she herself was on the verge of adulthood.

Lisey noticed a girl standing a few feet away, looking distinctly as uncomfortable as she felt. She edged closer to her and raised an eyebrow conspiratorially. "Not a big fan of these either, huh?"

She looked up at the woman and shrugged, "I thought it might be fun. Instead I feel like I'm playing the wallflower in one of those awkward teen movies." She put out a hand, "I'm Karolina."

"Lisey." She shook. "I'm probably breaking some grown-up rule by not telling you that it'll be better when you're older, but..." She shrugged.
