After finishing his broadcast for the morning, Vince had headed straight for the clothes box, ever hopeful he'd find more treasures. Kneeling on the floor, he didn't think much of it at first when he pulled out dress after dress, and it wasn't until he had a sizeable pile of flowery girly garments beside him that he realized the box was taking the ( Read more... )

Hana she might want to take a chance on the box again to see if she could find something, well, a little more fashionable. Something besides lace collared dresses and tie-dye. But that was before she was distracted by the sight of a man in a dress.

"Well, that's something you don't see every day."

"Wot, cookies?" Vince asked, a smudge of flour on his nose as he looked up from what he was doing.

At least he hoped it was flour. It looked like flour. He wasn't exactly brilliant with kitchen things, and truth be told, he really shouldn't have been attempting to bake without supervision...

"Cookies aren't that unusual," he insisted. "Though I reckon you don't see them 'round here every day... So maybe you're right."

"Actually, I was referring to the dress, but..." She trailed off. "You have something here," she said and pointed to her own nose, approximately where the flour would be. "Do you want any help?" Hana had never really been big on baking, but he looked like the sort that could use some help, if for no other reason than to make sure the kitchen wouldn't later be declared a disaster area.

Vince looked down at the dress he was wearing, trying to work out what about it was so unusual. In his opinion, it was actually quite a modest dress. Tame by his standards even.

"Oh, uh, well... you can help if you fancy," he shrugged, rubbing the flour from his nose and offering a small smile. "Don't really know wot I'm doing to be honest. Just seemed the sort of thing to do since I'm dressed like this and all. I like to follow through when it comes to wardrobe decisions."

It probably should have surprised me more to find Vince twirling about the kitchen in a dress and heels, but if there was one thing I was learning about him, it was that you had to expect the unexpected.

It was like Betty Crocker on crack.

"Make sure you put on an apron, to protect your dress," I advised from the doorway, still bleary-eyed from the party the night before, and on the hunt for some very strong coffee.

"Do we have aprons?" Vince asked. "I reckon I need one of those with the lace bits on," he said thoughtfully, flour smudged across his cheek and nose as he flashed Shari a bright smile.

"You look well hung over," he grinned. "Have a good night?" he asked with a teasing wink.

"Yeah, actually," I confessed in a voice rough from lack of sleep, and offered a drowsy smile as I crossed to Vince. "It wasn't bad." I reached up and rubbed the white streak from his cheek, stifling a wide yawn with my free hand. "There's aprons in the third drawer by the oven," I advised, and then plodded over to the coffee maker.

"Oh, right, thanks," Vince said brightly, wandering over to the draw and digging out the best apron he could find. "I'm baking cookies," he said brightly, watching her as she headed over to the coffee pot.

"I've never made 'em before, but I reckon it can't be that hard..."

Ariel had brought Matthew with her to the kitchen while she planned on making Anne a special treat. Something sweet. But someone was already there, and her eyes widened a little, because she was the most unfortunate looking woman Ariel had seen.

That was a very nice dress, though.

Ariel smiled to the woman, settling Matthew in the kitchen's high chair. "That's a pretty dress. Did you get it in the clothes box?"

"Yeah, it's well retro," Vince said, doing another twirl and then grinning. "Was all the box 'ad on offer today. Nothing but dress after dress. Some of them were a bit more flash like, but I didn't want to wander around looking tarty all day. Wouldn't want people thinking I'm a slag."

Ariel hadn't heard that slang before, but could assume it's meaning. "Oh, well, I don't think you look at all tarty," she said kindly. "But I have to admit I've often wondered how women walk in shoes like those." She motioned to her high heels.

"Me too," Vince admitted. "But I reckon they walk in them the same way I do. One foot in front of the other and all that."

While Rictor was discovering that he could probably use his left hand for something, like holding a piece of paper or picking up a pen, it was sort of useless in terms of more important tasks. Giving up shirts made sense since his jeans had given him enough problems. Coffee had been pretty much the best and only incentive he could think of to put them on and go down to the kitchen in the first place.

It wasn't too early in the morning for drag, but the baking seemed a bit much. Probably because of all the flour. "You know... There's an episode of I Love Lucy just like this. Sort of."

"Yeah?" Vince asked, flour smudged across his nose and cheeks, despite having hardly even started baking. "I always wondered how I'd look as a redhead. I used to talk about it now and then... I asked Howard a few times if he thought I'd suit it, but he just used to give me that

"Just a bit. And he probably got distracted by the mental image," Rictor teased, filling up a cup with coffee. At least someone had been thoughtful enough to make some earlier.

After a few sips, he wandered back to the table and grinned. "You missed a spot," he added, dipping a few fingers into the flour and adding some to Vince's jawline. "There. So. What are you making?"

"Oi!" Vince laughed, rubbing the flour from his face. "I'm baking cookies. Least I think I am," he said, looking at the mess he'd made so far.

"Wasn't allowed to cook back home. Howard said my hair was a fire hazard..."
