come go with me.

Living on an island hadn't stopped Veronica Mars from finding ways to fill up her days. She had signed up for more classes than she would ever have envisioned herself taking of her free will in Neptune and spent the rest of her time checking in on people and running through training sessions with Teyla or Arya (or Taser, but those were the ones ( Read more... )

For those from the Shades being wet and having fun weren't exactly expressions that meant the same thing. Rosie Palm was a girl who knew survival like the back of her hand and knew that sometimes to get what you want, you had to do what others weren't exactly willing to do and more importantly you had to do with a smile.

Service with a smile, you can't exactly beat that.

Still, she may be dressed like she knew what the bathsuit she was wearing was for, classy and a little bit out of style for a modern girl, but she was something out the past, if folks were to believed, and part of being historical meant she could dip her toes in, but there was no way she was getting wet.

"The noise is nice though," she said, talking through the din of the waterfall to the extremely blonde girl already there.

Veronica looked over, blinking, then stood in the middle of the water to look around. It sounded like the girl was having a conversation already, but she was the only one there. "It is," she said tentatively. "Very... waterfallesque. The temperature's nice."

It was like talking about the weather with a girl who looked like she'd walked out of another time. Around here, she probably had.

Arching an eyebrow, Rosie licked her lips and dipped a toe in again.

"Hmm, waterfalls, how quaint. But they aint nothing without a windmill or somethin' to go along with them," she said, smirking slightly. "It's a bit...wet for my tastes."

"You know, I thought that, too," Veronica said. "I just wasn't used to water being this wet before the island. Funny that."

"Not from city are you?" Rosie asked, and it wasn't accusing. A girl knows better than to accuse right off, it's mellow, calm, feeling the the blonde girl just like she's feeling the water out with another splash. "Not one that sees water that you can see through, at least."

"Our water's pretty clear in California," she replied, a little confused. "Most of the time anyway. Neptune was more a suburb than a city. You couldn't see through your water?" Now that was more than a little frightening to think on.

"Not in the river, but you don't usually come out of the Anhk once you get into it." Not unless you were an Assassin, but that was only if you were getting particularly cocky were you even sent it. "California, on the Roundworld i take it?"

"Got it in one." Veronica canted her head to the side, curious. "Ankh on the Disc, I take it?" She knew her share of Discfolk, and as weird as the whole flat world thing was, the part with the turtles was weirder.

Rosie nodded and smiled in that odd way, that those who have their hand in shadier businesses have a tendency to smile. "Also in one, looks like we're even," she said, which suited her fine, as she did not do debts.

Veronica swam forward until she could walk, pulling herself out of the water. Once she had a towel, she offered her hand to the girl. "Veronica Mars."

She wasn't stupid, and she more importantly, wasn't born yesterday, thus she took the girl's hand and shook it. "Rosie Palm."

The name didn't ring any bells, but there was a certain calm shrewdness to the girl, a kind of air, that said that this one was worth knowing -- or at least keeping an eye on. "Well, Rosie Palm," she said, "around here, the water is generally clear. It's the dinosaurs you've got to worry about."

It was always a good idea to know Rosie Palm, and an even better one to keep an eye on her. Especially if you wanted to know what was going to on or if she needed you. "I heard about them, but I'm not to worried." And even if she was, she wouldn't be sharing that worry. "We'll see how it works out, me and those dinosaurs."

Stranger things had happened. Ygritte rode the damn things sometimes, but she was the exception, not the rule. Veronica couldn't think Rosie would prove to be the same. "Who knows?" she said. "They may even have you over for lunch."

Rosie had no patience for consistently riding much of anything. Men included.

She laughed. "Right, I'm quite certain I would be their star guest."

"The meal wouldn't be half as good without you," she agreed cheerily, suppressing a smirk. By and large, those from the Disc apparently had good senses of humor. There had to be exceptions, but she'd yet to meet any of them. "So you're new to the island?"
