come go with me.

Living on an island hadn't stopped Veronica Mars from finding ways to fill up her days. She had signed up for more classes than she would ever have envisioned herself taking of her free will in Neptune and spent the rest of her time checking in on people and running through training sessions with Teyla or Arya (or Taser, but those were the ones ( Read more... )

Ellie knew she couldn't just mope for the rest of her time on the island. Deciding she needed to get out and get some sunshine, she thought it was a good day to sit out. Of course, the clothes box decided to only give her a strange blue floral-patterned swimsuit among the dozens of other even worse swimsuits, so she eventually decided to give in and take it.

Of course someone else was in the area, though she was glad, upon getting closer, it was someone she knew. Putting down her things neatly, she headed to the edge of the water. Veronica seemed so peaceful, though, so she opted not to call out to her. Instead, she tested the water's temperature with her foot, considering taking a dip.

When Veronica caught sight of the movement, she brought herself right side up, treading until her feet touched ground. "Ellie, hey," she said. "It's safe, I swear. Nothing but shrieking eels and the occasional piranha."

"Is that all?" she said, biting back a grin as she stepped in further. The water was warm, and she found it was easy to get used to. "And here I was worried there was something really dangerous in here."

The thought hadn't even crossed her mind, really, especially seeing Veronica in the water already. She finally headed in fully, until she could swim instead of walk.

"Guess the piranhas aren't biting today," she mused as she got closer. When she came to a stop near Veronica, she smiled. "How are you?"

"Lucky us," Veronica said. Pointless belt aside, it seemed as if the clothes bin had been kinder to her than to Ellie. Brushing her hair back over her shoulders, she shrugged. "I've been worse." It was nearly always true. "And it's nice out here. How about you? Find anything interesting to patch up lately?"

"Things are slowing down," she said, and, honestly, she was glad of that, despite not having anything to occupy her time any more. She was happy to see Samara had recovered so well. "It's back to being quiet again. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing."

"A good thing," Veronica said, surprising herself a little. "When the next big thing happens, that'll be pretty clear. Unless the next big thing is everyone gets a free pony." She tilted onto her back again, looking up at the sky.

"A pony?" she asked, a grin quirking up on her face. "Something you always wanted, huh?"

She'd been on horses on a couple of places she went to with Devon. It had been fun, but she didn't think she would want one permanently.

"Maybe," Veronica said, dragging out the word. So she'd been girly growing up, sue her. That it hadn't changed didn't need to be public information. "But my dad said Santa wasn't too keen on the housing arrangements."

She bit back a laugh. "Well, I can't imagine a pony would fit well under a Christmas tree, anyway. And hey, you never know. This place might bring you one one day. I have a bed in my hut now that magically came out of nowhere last month."

"Aww," Veronica said, "magical surprise present out of nowhere day. My favorite island holiday. It's so much more fun than when dinosaurs try to have me over for lunch."

"You've actually seen them?" she asked, her eyes widening a little at the thought. "I've heard stories, but..."

Veronica shrugged. "I've been here two years," she pointed out. A girl gets curious. "The fence went down once and they were all out here. Jurassic Park four."
