Idyllic life in paradise.
It seemed like it was coming out of one of the textboots he'd studied back in Stanford, but they left out the part where your dead-Dad came back from hell and your brother vanished and oh yeah, the Demon that wanted you to be his Anti-Christ was raised out of hell and killed a fake version of your girlfriend before giving you your powers back. Unless that was in the ripped-out pages of the Divine Comedy, Sam was pretty sure he skipped that chapter.
That was in the past, though, and now Sam was at the waterfall, washing his face to get the red of his cheeks to go down, just enough to not look like he'd been doing something dirty when really, he'd just been out for a walk.
Even if it was killing him to be apart from Veronica and not push his luck, it was getting better. He could almost even manage with not seeing her, given that he knew that he was hurting her. Plus, reading the journal entries on his laptop always gave him that worried feeling that maybe it was the best that they were split until he figured out just what the deal was back home.
Today, Sam figured he could chance the reels again.
Or maybe just bask a little in the sun.
He sat himself down on one of the rocks, water still dripping off his fingertips as he stared upwards at the canopy of trees and gave a quiet, settled laugh. "Paradise," he mumbled to himself. "Better than the fire in the pit, I guess."
