Contrary to popular expectation and her own good sense, Muffin loves to be groomed. That she's only just discovered this is no measure of the depth of her enjoyment, and now that Newbie's found himself with a Deluxe Grooming Station, she insists he see to her coat and nails at least once a day

Curtis peeks out the Compound's front door, and eyes the surrounding area with keen suspicion.

"Craig!" he hisses. "Where did you go?"

"Over here!" Newbie calls, watching as Muffin pads across the roof to peer down on Curtis from above. "Hey you want your nails done?"

Curtis looks up at Muffin and scowls, then at Newbie. "No! Do I look like a cat to you? Or female?" he calls.

"No, but that's no reason to let your nails go to seed," says Newbie. Besides, he's secretly hoping Curtis will let him brush his hair.

[tvaholic]

"To seed? What does that even mean?" Curtis grumbles. After a long moment of consideration he edges his way outside. It's part of his therapy program, after all, and Newbie isn't that far out.

He lingers near the door, looking uncertain.

"It means it'll get all wild and mountainman!" Newbie says, and he's definitely thinking of Curtis' hair now that the other man is stepping into the light. "C'mon," he says, and beckons him closer like one might a little bird.

Curtis grumbles again, but finally makes his way over to the tree. He sits down fast next to Newbie. Maybe a little closer than usual.

"My nails are just fine," he replies, giving them a look. Biting them down keeps them from getting gross.

"Could use some filing though," says Newbie, spying a ragged edge. Still, Curtis is within reach now, so his fingers dart up to straighten Curtis' hair. "Want me to style it?"

Curtis sort of shrinks in on himself, drawing his knees up to rest his chin on them. He looks over at Newbie without moving his head.

"Style it how?" he asks petulantly.

[frooty_o_s]

"I dunno, maybe comb it a little," Newbie tells him, more petting than straightening now. "You ever tried parting it? I bet you look like a newscaster."

[tvaholic]

"Why would I want to look like a newscaster?" Curtis asks, eyebrows raised. "I'd rather look like someone interesting. Like McGyver."

[frooty_o_s]

"Nuh-uh, 'cause then you'd have a mullet," Newbie tells him, "and we couldn't do it anymore."

[tvaholic]

"McGyver didn't have a mullet! His hair was just...feathery in the front," Curtis says.

[frooty_o_s]

Newbie giggles and kisses his forehead. "That's deniable there, Curtis my husband. He had a mullet, big time!"

[tvaholic]

Curtis grumbles without saying anything. How can he have forgotten something like that? Or never even noticed it?

"Okay. I don't want a mullet," he says. "...Or feathery bangs."
