Not Pictured

Logan tried to stay away from the film cans on the bookshelf. After all, they tended to be nothing but trouble. Whether it was an episode of Veronica's TV show, or a fake documentary featuring Joe's death, nothing good ever seemed to come of sitting down to take in a film. Well, okay, nothing good with the exception of sitting and watching some Disney crap with Dee that one time... But she was long gone now, and Logan didn't like to let himself linger on thoughts of the people he missed.

Still, the memory was enough to make him curious, and soon enough he was flipping through cans of film, stopping when he reached one labeled 'Veronica Mars 2.22 Not Pictured'. He'd seen other people pour over every real of film related to them and their loved ones, but Logan had never really had the balls to do it himself. He figured there were things he just wasn't supposed to know, things that he hopefully wouldn't have to live through. It was the only episode on the shelf though, and as Logan flipped though a stack of old film noir, he found himself coming back to the episode over and over.

Maybe this one was important.

Even after he'd pulled it down off the shelf, it took him a good twenty minutes just to find the nerve to watch the damn thing. He took his time setting up the projector, threading the film slowly as if waiting for it to vanish or change... To do something to stop him from watching it.

Nothing happened though, and with a sigh of defeat, Logan clicked off the lights and settled in to watch despite his better judgment.

Seeing Veronica's dream seemed like more than just an invasion of privacy, and even though he knew he should look away, he couldn't... especially as he watched them lock lips right in front of Duncan and a very alive Lilly. It wasn't real, hell, even here it wasn't a possibility anymore, but there was still a moment, tiny though it was, that Logan sort of wished it could happen. Things would have been so much simpler.

Then everything changed. Sure, he got to see himself in a cap and gown, and he got to see Veronica get the respect that he knew she'd deserved, but after that it all just seemed to go to hell. He'd spent too long thinking he was the only one with skeletons in his closet, and watching Cassidy's being dusted off and dragged into the light was beyond painful. How could he have been friends with the guy for that long and never noticed what was going on with him? How could he have sat back and watched Dick and the others torture him? Hell, who was he kidding, how could he have let himself be so cruel to the kid, when it was so obvious that there was something wrong there? Had he been so self involved that he couldn't see what was happening?

And then...

Well, Logan wasn't sure he could fully take in the rest.

He knew his father was dead, he knew he'd been killed. Shot in a hotel room after getting away with murder. He knew all about it, had learned about it from Veronica. That didn't make it any easier to watch as the blood splattered across the screen though, and nothing could have prepared him for what came next.

Duncan.

He was torn for a long moment, unable to decide if the feelings welling up inside him were anger or hatred or... or happiness. Duncan Kane had set up his father's death, hell he'd probably paid for it in cash... His own friend. Best friend. The guy he'd fought, the guy he'd kissed, was the reason there would be no one waiting for him if he ever made it home.

Duncan had killed his father, and Logan... Logan hadn't saved Cassidy.

The reel came to an end, and Logan flipped off the projector, sitting in the dark as he gathered his thoughts.

(He's not in a bad mood, but he might come off as a bit cold at first. Really he needs company though, if only so he doesn't feel so alone. Feel free to have your pup have seen as much or as little as you want, chances are he wouldn't notice someone lurking and watching behind him. For those who'd like to watch the episode, you can find it here.)
