I've died before. It's no big deal.

Claire was bored and she'd had her fill of History and French. She could honestly only do so much homework. The cruel twist was the bookshelf was only offering up novels in French (Les Liaisons dangereuses???) and, like, every issue of National Geographic ever ( Read more... )

Eden had come into the rec room in search of something new to read - there was a growing stack of books in her hut she'd been too lazy to bring back just yet, but she had no problem picking up new ones to take home with her - and stopped, not far behind the couch where Claire sat. She had meant to say hello when she saw the younger girl, but the film footage caught her attention. She was left standing, startled and hovering without meaning to. It wasn't until the girl on screen stood directly in front of the camera, though, that she realized just who it was. "Oh my God," she breathed without hearing herself. She'd known Claire had a power, but the idea of being indestructible had been abstract until now.

She whipped her head around and looked at Eden sheepishly. "I thought you knew, Eden," she said, sounding more like an apology.

Bennet had never told Eden what it was Claire could do, only that she had to be protected; she'd only heard it from Claire herself later, after they were stranded here and the ability to do anything was long gone. Smiling anyway, she moved closer, leaning over the couch to rest a hand on Claire's shoulder. "Yeah, well, knowing's not the same as seeing," she said frankly, almost apologetic herself. "Claire, where'd this come from?"

Claire drew the comb through Mr. Muggles tail as she shrugged. "It was on the bookshelf with all the National Geogra--"

She cut off the explanation when she looked over and saw none of the same things on the shelf that had been there before.

"It didn't have a label, but I was bored so I put it on. Zach and I made it back in Odessa when the whole thing got started."

Bart had wanted to see if he could cajole something besides his life story or books he'd already read, but he hesitated when he saw the projector was going. The other times he'd seen that, it hadn't been pleasant for the ones involved, and he didn't want to ruin someone's day.

This time, however...he watched the girl in the cheer leading outfit do horrible things to herself, and then get up again. He took a few more steps into the room so he could see who was watching, and blurted out, "Is that...you?"

Claire's eyes widened as she looked at him. Telling people was one thing. Here, it wasn't like it even mattered. Here, she was normal.

But the film was clear evidence that she totally wasn't.

".........uh-huh," she said quietly, then scrambled to keep hold of the toy pomeranian who was struggling to get away and investigate the new person.

"Didn't that hurt?" he asked, stepping forward to give the pomeranian a hand to sniff, figuring it might calm down sooner. Then he realized what he'd asked, and ducked his head in a silent apology.

"Sorry, I wasn't thinking. Most people want to hide if they were...different. I always had to. So my friends wouldn't get hurt."

It simply wasn't possible for eyes to open any wider, but hers seemed to. Just a bit. "Yeah!" she nodded. "I know...about hiding it." Then she cut herself off and looked back at the film as she pulled her shoulder backinto place with a gristly crunch. "It didn't hurt, though. Not much."

Xander walked into the rec room right when the girl on the screen jumped. He winced then watched in amazement as the girl stood up and popped her shoulder back into place. Though he wasn't exactly surprised. It's not like he'd never seen Buffy do something similar.

What did surprise him was in he walked in and saw the girl from the screen sitting on the couch watching it. And she was really cute...He shook his head. No way, not a good way to start a stay on a magical island, not with his luck. Instead he just stood by the couch, hands in his pockets and asked curiously, "Attempt number six at what?"

Claire didn't look up, she simply kept combing her dog. "To stay dead," she said, distracted by the sight of it. She remembered how Zach looked all panicked and grosse out, but that part wasn't on film.

It took another second, then she turned to look at him and her jaw dropped.

"Homigah..." she exhaled. She knew that face.

Xander frowned slightly as he looked at her. He thought the whole point of living was to stay undead...well for most people anyway...with the normal version of undead being alive not a vampire or zombie or...Wait, could she be? He looked at her again. Nah. She was definatly more of a Slayer then a demon. But maybe he'd ask Buffy to be sure.

He was about to ask, when she turned and looked at him with that weird expression. He gave her a bashful smile. "What?"

Chances were he'd be all weird like Logan had been. She learned quickly that people from tv here were actually the people from tv. She'd also heard rumors that not everyone knew they were on tv.

How weird was that?

"...Nothing," she said softly and closed her mouth. She was totally blushing. She could feel it.

Jamie was a lot of things, and sometimes selfish was one of them. He had put two and two together the other when he'd seen Abby crying and Tony's lack of being, well, there. He'd never been much good at consoling. In fact, as Rictor had pointed out more than once, he sort of sucked at it. And so he'd walked away and now he was feeling pretty shitty about that decision. And when Jamie felt bad about himself, he went to rec room, land of the obnoxious jukebox and the unhelpful bookshelf. Because if you're going to feel bad about yourself? Might as well have something to make you feel worse.

However, as he'd entered the rec room he saw something he didn't expect to see. A rather familiar film clip. It was familiar, of course, because he'd seen it on Heroes. And who was watching but a Hero herself. Claire Bennet was apparently watching her home videos.

"Ouch," he said.

Claire turned her head and smirked. She'd rewound the tape a couple times and by now it wasn't such a shock. "Not really," she shrugged. "If it hurt bad, I wouldn't have done it."

I wonder who else is here? I mean, I know Hiro's here, but other than that? No idea.

"I think that's the mantra for people with powers," he replied before heading to the bookshelf. The titles shifted and suddenly the only thing it offered were poker manuals. Yep, definitely makes me feel worse. Knew I could I count on you. He stepped back with a sigh and turned to face Claire again. "Do you miss it?"

"No," she answered, quickly and sharp. But then she saw how she had run in and saved that guy and she continued, much more quietly. "Maybe. A little."

It wasn't that he was spying on her exactly. Well, it was but it wasn't personal. Tim - even before he'd ever put on the mask - had been quietly hanging around in the background, watching, gathering information, filing it aware for little more than the pleasure of knowing it. Changing that tendency now would have required the same amount of effort as redirecting the Mississippi.

So he'd been quietly watching for some time without speaking until the blonde girl on the screen had quietly announced attempt number six and then walked further into the room and settled onto the arm of the couch, looking down at the identical blonde sitting there. "How many times were you going to try before you admitted it wasn't a fluke?"

Claire looked up at him as her muth went dry. How many times? What a dumb question.

"I didn't want it to be a fluke. I wanted it to end. I kinda wanted to try till it...stuck."

He'd sort of expected that answer. Most people didn't try to kill themselves once let alone six times just on a whim. He held out his hand, "I'm Tim Drake. I'm guessing that your family didn't know and would have flipped out if they did, right?"

Dry mouth segued to arched brow and quirked lip and she moved away a little. No way was she taking the weirdo's hand.

"Uh, I'm Claire. Bennet. Which I just said on the tape so you knew that if you were listening. Why do you want to know about my family?" she asked, obviously on edge and deeply suspicious. She could talk about herself all day, but no one ever asked about her family. Not that fast, anyhow.
