It was a rather nice evening, and Hiro didn't wander back to the hut as early as he usually did, instead stopping by the larger waterfall to sit and enjoy the quiet. Charlie had been jogging, and she was sweaty and disgusting, and she came upon Hiro by accident. He looked so peaceful that Charlie didn't want to disturb him, so she just leant against a tree in her running shoes and her shorts and tanktop and just watched him for a moment, a little smile on her face.

Hiro didn't notice her - at first. But eventually he did feel like there was someone watching him, and he tore his gaze from the waterfall to find her just standing to the side.

"You going to come over?" he called out, motioning for her to walk over.

Charlie smiled at him, and hooked a tendril of damp hair back from her face.

"You just looked so peaceful, baby. I didn't want to disturb you."

"You never disturb me," he assured, beaming a grin at her. He moved over a little on his rock and put his katana on the ground next to him to give her room to sit.

It was the glimmer of the sword Eustace saw first, and after that he realized there was a person sitting next to it. "Oh, hullo," he said awkwardly as he realized the other boy had seen him stop and look. "That's a lovely sword you've got. Did it come with you from home?"

Hiro was always happy to speak about his katana. It was something to be proud of, he thought, especially considering who used to wield it.

"Well, it come to me on the island," he explained. "But yes, it from home. I was looking for it before I came to this place."

Eustace gave a little grin. "That's quite swell. The only sword I've ever had was my best friend's second best, and I didn't even use it that much." Belatedly he remembered his manners. "I'm Eustace, by the way," he said, doing an accidental little hitch-step forward as he extended his hand.

"I am Hiro Nakamura. It is very nice to meet you," he replied, taking the man's hand and shaking it. "This katana is...special. It held by very famous warrior in my culture. I'm trying to learn to use it like him now."

Of course, he'd never get his full potential out of it until he got his powers back, but he tried not to think of about it that way.
