Two days had passed since Kara had had her baby. Oh, but that wasn't all that had happened two days ago. Two days ago Sharon had frakking abandoned Helo, leaving him to be the one to spill the beans to Lee about the father of Kara's baby. The situation with Kara had been heated and tense as it was, but adding telling Lee how Leoben, a cylon, was ( Read more... )

The truth of it was, that ever since that whole thing with Kara and the closet and Leoben, Lee had been keeping to himself, trying to do everything he could to not think about it all. Not that Starbuck was frakking a cylon, not that they'd all kept it from him for a month...

But it was a pretty small island with a lot of people on it, so it was really only a matter of time before he ran into someone. Lee'd gone to the rec room in hopes that the bookshelf would give him something besides law books, and found Helo and Hera instead.

"Hey." He greeted.

[At work. Sloooow tags, most likely.]

"Hey."

Helo was a little surprised to see Lee, actually, but he hoped he hadn't given that away.

After learning that Kara was with a cylon and having his kid? If Helo weren't, well, in his own situation, he could kind of imagine how shocking the whole thing had to be for Lee. Kind of.

There was that, and the fact that Kara and he hadn't come right out and told Lee what was going on.

Only Helo didn't think now was the time to discuss the whole frakking ordeal in detail -- unless Lee brought it up first.

"So," he said after a moment's hesitation. "This place is pretty weird, huh?"

"Yeah, you're telling me," Lee responded, keeping himself from asking Helo if Kara was okay. He hadn't been by to check on her, and hadn't planned on going. If she wanted to be with a cylon? Fine. She could start a whole frakking family of little toaster babies.

He moved over to the bookshelf to see whether or not it had had a change of heart since last time. "Anything worth reading?" He asked, gesturing towards it.

Cocking his head to the side, Helo regarded Lee for a moment in silence. Helo didn't think he looked too good. Maybe he wasn't sleeping, but frak if Helo was going to ask Lee about it.

"Well, I'm not sure. Any of these interest you?" Grinning a little, Helo pulled a small stack of books he'd had under his arm: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, No, David!, and The Magic Schoolbus Lost in the Solar System.

"Uh, no. I don't think so." He said, looking maybe just a little amused. "I don't think I'm that bored yet."

Close, but not quite.

Everything with Kara aside, there just wasn't much for him to do on the island, and it had all left Lee feeling antsy, and maybe just a little guilty.

"Huh. Well they are on your reading level. Just thought I'd offer, man," Helo said teasingly. Tucking the books back under his arm, his eyes began to scan the shelf again.

Just as he saw a book labeled The Great Pyramids of Egypt, an idea struck him.

"Hey, have you met John Sheppard yet? A little shorter than me, dark hair that sticks up all over the place? He's military."

"I don't think so," Lee said, after a second of trying to remember the names of people he'd met. There hadn't been too many, and of those, he'd probably only talked to them once or twice. "Colonial Fleet?"

"No." Helo waved a hand, shaking his head. "He's from Earth. A military organization called the Air Force."

Hera got louder just then, repeating the "dadadadadadada" sound over and over again.

"Hang on," Helo murmured, and then went to scoop his daughter up. She laughed, delighted, and then squirmed until he rearranged things so Hera could be looking forward. "Sorry," he said sheepishly, moving back to where Lee stood. "Anyway. We've been talking on and off for months about creating a Pyramid league. I build a court a while ago. You'd be interested in somethin' like that?"

The organization was familiar, but only because someone had asked him if he was a member of it. The same woman who had thought he was crazy for not knowing what a 'jet' was.

When Helo picked up Hera, Lee couldn't help but wonder whether or not he knew about what had happened back on Galactica. Because as far as he'd been told, he was the only one who'd even seen New Caprica. Besides some guy named Dwight.

Lee had only heard about it just before Starbuck's two alpha back to Caprica.

He decided not to bring it up.

"It'd be better than anything else going on around here," Lee commented in regards to a Pyramid league. He'd played every now and then before the cylon attacks. "If you guys get it going, you can count me in."

Helo laughed a little, nodding at Lee's words. "Yeah, if only we can get it going. John and I've been talking about it for months. I built the pitch, Sharon and I did an exhibition once, but then Kara got--" He quickly cut himself off, not wanting to walk down that particular avenue with Lee. "We all just got too busy, I guess. But we're definitely wanting to get a move on the whole thing."

That was an understatement. Helo didn't know about John, but he was ready for some serious distractions himself.

"I'll have to introduce you two guys sometime. He's a great guy. Hera sure loves him, don't you?"

At that, Hera looked up at her father, a bright smile on her face. Her attention quickly diverted to Lee, however, and she waved a chubby arm at him.

Lee did his best to ignore the sentence that Helo didn't complete, but couldn't help it when his brain finished it with 'Kara got knocked up by a toaster'.

"Sounds like a good idea," He commented, "As far as I can tell, there's not too much going on around here in the way of extra curriculars." Nothing that Lee seemed particularly interested in anyway. Though he'd heard a few things about an island police department and was tempted to ask around about it.

Hera waved up at him and Lee managed to plaster something like a smile on his face as he gave a little wave back.

"Well, there are, actually. Just not too many of interest to guys like you or me," Helo said with a small smile. "Most of the things are geared toward people interested in entertaining or reporting. Me, I'd rather stick to what I know -- protecting people and taking part in some good old fashioned athletics."

Helo shook his head in amusement at Hera's delighted squeal before looking back up at Lee. "We think she's gonna walk soon. I can tell she wants to." He laughed a little, thinking of what was to come. "Then I guess that's where I'll be getting those good old fashioned athletics if pyramid doesn't pan out."
