Anyone who ever said things got easier the second time hadn't ever done anything twice. Of course, this wasn't Geoffrey's second play. But it was his second play on the island, and that made all the difference. People were made or broken on their second effort: their second movie, their second album, their second production. It was when a person found out of they could really go the distance. When one separated the men from the boys, so to speak.
Or maybe Geoffrey was thinking about this too much.
The bookshelf hadn't been quite as obliging with copies of Much Ado as it had been with The Tempest, but he still had an adequate supply, even if most of them were a version meant for junior high school students with a page of inane questions at the end of each act. They still had the full text of the play, and that was all that really mattered.
He got to the stage early, early enough that even Duck, who knew what Geoffrey could get like when it came to his plays, was surprised how early he got out of bed. But he wanted to be ready when people started showing up, and last time people had started showing up pretty early in the day. He could only hope that he would get that kind of turnout again.
