The island was farce; amusing yet deeply tragic. And Council was farce; harmless but so very annoying, like small-town politics tend to be. And one thought kept popping it ugly head into consciousness; God, he missed England.
Nominations, speeches, elections. Three steps in this island electoral system that, to be quite frank, failed. Proof for which were not in the least the numerous speeches that mentioned 'vote for someone else', 'I don't know why I was nominated, but...' and those that spoke of personal agendas. The whole process needed a change. But what bothered him most today, was that he was again faced with the question ‘can I be arsed to care?’. He didn't like that question. So, a different matter would be approached today.
Full stop, new chapter (the irony of this statement will be revealed in a few moments).
Fire and books don't go well together. Throughout history world of knowledge have been lost by accidental and purposeful incineration of printed words - libraries and gathered piles of wisdom died in flames.
Guy was against it, quite resolutely so. But when it concerned an infinite stash of books on a magic bookshelf, different laws applied.
He had collected some tobacco a few weeks ago (when one wants something, one ought to do it oneself, Mr. Blunt) and neatly dried it in the sun. Now he had a lovely pile of tobacco, ready to be smoked. What he needed still was paper. Thin paper, to be gained from an infinite supply. The choice fell upon the obvious.
The Bible. No other book uses paper so bloody thin it's nearly see-through. It was a perfect choice. So, he approached the shelf with a kind smile. Oh God, forgive me for I will sin. He laughed mentally and picked up a gold-plated version of the King James'.
((OOCW: Weird LJ-experience, lost my previous post… So this is a new one and improved one. Open to anyone, friends, foes, strangers. Late tags welcome, I'm about. :) ))
