How do you get home, when you don't have a map, or a compass?

It had been just over two and a half months since Mulan had found herself stranded on the strange island of Tabula Rasa. It had been equally as long since she mysteriously discovered that she could speak their native language (although, 'native' was a very lose term, since no one really seemed to be from around here). She'd arrived injured, and ( Read more... )

Ford glanced at the younger woman, eying her outfit only briefly and out of curiousity. She seemed sort of distracted though so he figured she wouldn't notice. Just the same, he wanted to be polite. Maybe she was new. "Hey."

Mulan stopped short, and blinked at the man before her. She couldn't recall having ever seen a person with such dark skin... but then, until a couple of months ago, she'd never seen a person with such wide or bright eyes as many of the people on this island. She smiled, just a bit, and nodded her head. "Hello."

"I'm Aiden Ford," he added, feeling a little encoraged by her nod. Some people on the island were more stoic than others and it wasn't like he was doing anything much besides patroling.

"My name is Mulan," she replied, her posture relaxing just a bit. "Nice to meet you. Have you been here long?"

From the top of her head, Crik Yi peered curiously at their new acquaintance.

As I find myself walking about the island, I pass a young woman I've not seen before. Her looks remind me of some of the women in zennana, women I'd never seen before going to that horrible place. There's something determined in her carriage, though, and I find myself folding my arms over my chest and giving her a small Cassiline bow as I pass her. "Good day," I say as I approach.

Mulan paused, and bowed in return, her hands folded in front of her. "To you, too," she replied. She may not have been a perfect porcelain doll, but she wasn't completely rude. And as she straightened, she smiled.

I always do enjoy meeting new people here, particularly people who are pleasant. That is something odd for me, coming from a place where people eye me with suspicion or jealousey or anything other than pleasantry.

"Have you been here long?" That's always the best question to ask new faces, I imagine.

"Well... not 'long' ...exactly," She said, smiling awkwardly. "But I didn't just get here. It's been about... two months or so."

She cleared her throat. "Sorry, I'm just... this place is so different, I'm not sure if it's alright to act like myself. ... never seemed like it was okay at home either."

Tosh hadn't seen Mulan since her first day here. The island was big, and it was easy to miss people, but when she caught sight of the girl she smiled and waved. "Mulan!" She really should have made a point of finding her and checking on her earlier, to make sure she was adjusting.

Snapped out of her thoughts for the moment, Mulan looked up. Who would be calling me? she wondered to herself. When he eyes settled on Tosh, she smiled brightly, and closed some of the distance between them.

"Hi! ..Toshiko, right? I never got a chance to thank you for before!" she said, brightly. "I thought maybe you'd left."

"No, not left. Just always busy it seems. I wasn't positive it was you, that first day was a bit hectic." Well, there was no point dwelling on that. Tosh shrugged, "Call me Tosh. Most people do."

"Tosh... O-okay," said Mulan, as if trying to wrap her mouth around the abbreviated name. Then, she smiled sheepishly. "Yeah... it was pretty crazy, wasn't it? I'm a lot better now."
