Sometimes House kind of missed Cameron. He wanted someone to open his mail (okay, if he had mail) and do his paperwork and write up his charts and basically do all of the menial, annoying part of being a doctor for him. Actually, he wanted to force someone to do it. Sure, he could ask Chase to type up his notes and he'd probably do it, but what ( Read more... )

Karen charged into the clinic as forcefully as a woman can without the aid of high heels. She'd lost track of her Jimmy Choos and essentially everything else, too. Maybe they'd be more forthcoming with the pills, now that she had a real medical issue.

"Dr. Gimpy! We need to talk. What have you got for a three month blackout?"

Looking startled, House shut the laptop and looked up at her.

"Advice to lay off the recreational drugs," he said dryly.

Karen rolled her eyes, taking in the porn with mixed disgust and new-found admiration. "As much fun as I'm sure everyone finds your biting sarcasm, I'm dry. Running out of pills is one of the last things I remember clearly."

House sighed. "Look, lady. Are you serious about this? Because it sounds to me like you're wasting my time."

Chase had wandered into the clinic to get ready for his shift when he saw House watching something not a regular medical procedure. "What'd you find?" he asked curiously, leaning against the door with his hip, arms crossed, and looking generally happy.

House looked up at him, blinking. "There's porn on here."

"No way," he said immediately, shocked and surprised because he hadn't found it. Of course, he hadn't been looking exactly. He rounded the table and leaned over House's shoulder to gape at the discovery.

House looked back at the screen again as well. "Do you think those are real?"

Jack came in without a shirt. Not entirely shocking, but he was wearing some trousers that hadn't been popular since 1920 and he had to wear braces to keep them up.

"Hey," he said as he leaned across the desk. "Have you got any plans tomorrow?"

House nearly jumped out of his skin. "Jesus, Jack, don't you know not to sneak up someone when they're watching porn?"

Blink.

"Are you wearing suspenders?"

He waggled his eyebrows rappidly and grinned. "I am. They keep my pants up," he chuckled. "Where'd you get porn?"

"It was on the laptop," he said. "Found it by mistake. You know, most people wear a shirt with their suspenders."

Behind House, someone yawned loudly. "Oh, come on, that's edited," he said, scoffing.

House nearly jumped out of his skin. "Oh, for christ's sake, don't you know not to sneak up on someone when they're watching porn?"

"You're in public, you couldn't have been doing much of anything," the Doctor pointed out. He eyed the screen. "I've seen better."

"So have I," House snorted. "I just stumbled across this by accident."

So far, the best part of the island was the- well, the kissing had ranked pretty high up there, but that was so far an isolated incident, but hell, the handshaking was still pretty high up there, too- was the fact that wherever she was, she was probably in transit to the beach, one way or the other. She was on her way back from it, now, and so was wearing a bikini and the Zeppelin cropped t and a healthy amount of sand dusted dusted lightly across her visible skin. Which was a lot of it. And none of which was at risk of putting anyone into a coma. She wasn't used to that entirely, yet, but she liked it.

"'scuse me," she said, knocking lightly on then leaning against the doorframe. "Is Doctor Tam around?"

House immediately closed the laptop.

"Doctor who? No." Unless this guy was invisible.

"Oh," she said, gaze flicking to the laptop then back, "Sorry. Did I interrupt?"

"Nope," he said. "Do you need a doctor?"
