It had been a rousing success, as far as Jane would admit. For the whole day, she had spent it hanging the shimmery navy blue gauze from posts about the area in front of the compound, trusting the strange machines of the radio to broadcast music until it was too late, and then, she trusted to the musicians that were in attendance to play. Stacy hadn't been to a formal event in a long time, not since the last hospital gala Greg had actually taken her to. But Jack had asked her to come to this one, and it didn't seem like a bad idea. She'd even managed to find a dress and fix up her hair. And this, she told herself, would be a good time to meet more people from this place.

Jane approached shyly, smiling nervously as she recognised the woman from the treehouse and she brought over a glass of orange juice, freshly squeezed. "You would be Miss Stacy, wouldn't you?" she greeted warmly.

"I am," Stacy smiled, turning to meet the friendly and inviting gaze that welcomed her. "And you must be Jane. I've heard so much about you."

Jane ducked her head down shyly as she peered up. "I do hope they have been good things," she spoke, though she was very much unsure who would be speaking about her.

"Of course." Stacy's eyes were endearing. Jane was the type of person the world needed more of. "I met your husband at the treehouse. He was very kind in welcoming me."

Jane's face brightened at the mere mentioning of Stuart and her cheeks flushed with pink. "Oh! I am so very glad that you met Stuart. I also sent some baked treats home with Dr. House for you, I do hope they made their way to you."

"They did!" Stacy remembered then, and her gratitude rushed across her face. "That was so kind of you, I can't thank you enough." So this was the kind woman who had been so good to her. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there myself to greet you."

"I have been so busy that it is of no fault but my own," Jane remarked, grievous in her errors. "But it seems tonight we shall fix that, for we have finally met! My husband did speak kindly of you as well, Miss Stacy!"

"He spoke so highly of you," Stacy said, feeling her heart lift at Jane's enthusiasm. She was so innocent, so sweet and the sort of person she loved to befriend. "Where is it you call home here? Sometime I'd love to pay you a visit."

"If you are in the treehouse, it is immediately across the lane and through the clearing," Jane gave the directions with ease. "It is a small home, of three rooms, but cannot be missed."

Stacy nodded, listening attentively. "Home is special," she said fondly. "No matter the size. I'll be glad to see it."

"I do hope you like dogs," Jane added, laughing with familiarity as she felt quite comfortable. "We have two, after all."

"I do," Stacy said, nodding her agreement. "I grew up in a small house with acres of land around it, and we had several pets."

"Then you shall feel properly at home," she remarked happily, smiling softly. "It honestly is such a pleasure to meet you. You are everything Stuart proclaimed you to be."

"And you are everything he said you would be as well," Stacy said warmly, immediately taking to Jane. "I don't want to keep you from your guests though."

"We must speak again," Jane insisted, though she was wary, but a little. "And I shall make sure of it." She curtsied as she took her leave to speak to the other guests at the party.
