It had been a rousing success, as far as Jane would admit. For the whole day, she had spent it hanging the shimmery navy blue gauze from posts about the area in front of the compound, trusting the strange machines of the radio to broadcast music until it was too late, and then, she trusted to the musicians that were in attendance to play. Cuddy was not only glad she'd heard about the ball but equally that the clothes box had given her a formal dress to wear. The room was beautiful, it felt good to be dressed up again, and everything about the evening was beautiful.

She moved through the crowd, looking for familiar faces as well as Stu and Jane. Jane always did a wonderful job putting these events together.

Jane saw Miss Lisa in the distance and nearly put everything aside as she hurried over to greet her, smiling away. "Lisa!" she greeted happily. "You came! Thank you so much for attending. I have been so eager for this occasion for so long!"

Lisa's eyes lit up when she saw Jane. "I wouldn't miss this for the world," she said warmly, reaching to embrace Jane. "Everything looks perfect! So beautiful."

Jane smiled warmly, hugging her back, taking in her dress. "Oh! You look amazing," she remarked, eyes wide. "You shall be the envy of all women tonight, even me!"

"But you're radiant," Lisa said warmly. Jane's genuine enthusiasm always touched her heart. "You have the look of a woman in love, and you light up the room."

Jane blushed as she lowered her head, shaking it to rid herself of the shyness. "Stuart says it is because of the child," she spoke. "But I think I am flushed as I have been working nonstop in this lovely heat."

"It's possible that's it," Lisa said, and there was no trace of sadness in her voice. Her happiness for Jane was far too great for that. "You had others to help you, didn't you? I hope you didn't work too hard."

"Oh, yes! The Doctor was influential, for he is hosting the party with me! And I had much help and support from those who donated items and music," Jane assured Miss Lisa.

Lisa smiled, reassured. "It turned out beautifully," she assured Jane. "Stu must be so pleased!"

"You must wish him a happy birthday," Jane said, for such things were crucially important. "It would please me endlessly if you did," she pleaded softly.

"Of course," Lisa agreed. "I won't let the night end before doing so." Her eyes were still light with concern, for she was good at hiding it.

"I have to ask, have you been feeling well?"

"I have been feeling as well as I can!" Jane replied, for she did not ever want to complain and thus, she kept her ailments to herself and they always passed.

Lisa nodded, pleased by this as well. "I'm glad of it. You look well, at that." She'd probably worry over Jane until she'd carried her baby safely to term, but that just came with her being a friend as well as a doctor.

Jane nodded warmly. "Is it normal to be so hungry that your stomach rumbles and quakes so often?" she inquired, now that she had a doctor who was also a friend. Or perhaps it was the other way about. "I do eat enough, I swear."

Lisa nodded. "Every woman's pregnancy is different," she said. "Remember now you're literally eating for two, and the baby tends to be very hungry," she laughed.

"I am eating so very much!" Jane protested happily, not in the least upset. "Can you not see it?" Jane was quite proud of the weight gain, if only because it reminded her of the future and what it brought.
