trying out this art thing

Alphonse had a few books spread out across the pool table as well as the art set he'd been gifted with by whomever on January 7th. One was a book of prints of the works of Leonardo da Vinci. The others had some color wheels and a guide on light and shadow. He had a colored pencil behind his ear, and a sheet of the broad, white, heavy paper in ( Read more... )

Guy came in to return a book. The title had seemed interesting, but its contents had been awful and he did not wish to remain in possession of such piece of shit. He saw the child, all too happy, with smudges of paint all over on the pool table, which, as its name indicated, was not designed to be used as drawing board. "Some people prefer their pool tables in their original green colour." He commented dryly, while placing back the book.

"It's chalk dust," Al half laughed in the way that indicated most of his brain was dedicated to something else- presently, using the pad of his thumb to create the effect of light glancing off the top of the jukebox- "I'll be sure to carefuly remove all-" He stopped, blinked twice, and looked over at Guy.

He flushed a little.

"Uh," he said.

That reaction caused Guy to retrace his steps the past few weeks. See, it was the sort of look people gave him when he had done something to them. Most probably in a drunk mood. But he couldn't for the life of him think what it could be in this case. Just a child. And he hadn't been that drunk in quite some time.

"Have we met?" He asked.

Al could feel the blush creeping from his temples out across his cheekbones. It met on the bridge of his nose.

"Yes, actually," he said.

Calvin had his nose in a book as he walked into the rec room, a thick textbook about different sort of tropical plants. He had notes in the margin of it, intending to go speak to Dr. Maturin about it soon.

He glanced up just long enough to avoid crashing into the pool table, but stopped short when he saw who was sitting at it. He looked rather disturbingly familiar for a stranger. That had been him, for a few days.

"Hey there," he said, voice sounding odd in his ears.

Al blinked, looking up, unsure as to who exactly was addressing him. It was a familiar kind of greeting form someone he didn't recognize, but he offered a smile back.

"Hi."

"Al, right?" He asked, taking a tentative step toward the table. First time he'd ever seen this kid except in a mirror.

"I'm Calvin...I was, ah, in your body over the weekend."

"Oh!" Al said, looking up.

He was awfully tall.

He offered a smile, absently wiping his hands on his pants, and offered one.

"Alphonse Elric. It's good to meet you."

"Aha, found you!" A heavy hand clamped down on Al's shoulder, and his brother's head peered closer at the spread on the pool table. "No offense Al, but I don't think the pool table is really made ...for..."

Upon closer inspection, Ed was... impressed. His little brother had always had a steadier hand when it came to drawing arrays. It hadn't been until his 17th birthday that he'd realized Al was good at drawing things besides arrays.

"Heeeey... these are pretty good!"

Al grinned brightly up at his brother.

"It's like math! It's easy, once you understand the principles of perspective, and then color and how to demonstrate the quality of light! I'm getting better, at least," he added.

Edward chuckled to himself. "My brother the artist, who'd have thought?" he said, half-joking. Leaning on the edge of the pool table, Ed picked up one of the sketches, and examined it with interest. He'd never exactly been a fan of art... but Al's drawings were on the verge of photographic, if not slightly off.

He paused. "You enjoying it?"

"Yeah!" Al said brightly, "it's not easy. It's really interesting, though." He set down a pastel, turning to look up at Ed.

"What have you been doing?"
