It was a relatively quiet evening in the clinic - not that I was complaining. I had brought a plate of food from the party to the clinic, and I sat at the desk to eat it in relative peace. I could still hear the singing machine from inside the clinic, but that was fine. What the singers lacked in skill they made up in enthusiasm, and it was ( Read more... )

Pam had been having a wonderful time at the party, of course. Even with her husband drunker than.. well, he was just pretty drunk. At least it was in an amusing way and not a completely obnoxious one. Still, she was starting to get a little claustrophobic and decided to step out into the hall. When she found that also pretty crowded, she wandered down towards the clinic.

She was pleased when she spotted Claire and figured it wouldn't be a bad time to ask her a few things. It was highly unlikely that they'd be bothered by anyone, at least.

"Hello, Pam," I said, looking up from my bottle of pop. "Trying to get away from the noise of the party?" Parties weren't always the most entertaining occasions when everyone else was drunk.

"Just for a little," she admitted, tapping her fingers against her glass of sparkling juice. "Got too stuffy." She hesitated for a moment, but then sat down in one of the chairs opposite the desk.

"I was wondering.. Um. I just.. Could I ask you a question?"

"Of course," I said, leaning my elbows on the desk. "Anytime. Is something bothering you?"

The party was brilliant, but Ragetti was reaching the point where he needed to lie down. Desperately so. But it seemed the seats in the rec-room were full of peoples drinking, making merry, or being somewhat lewd. So, stumbling into the clinic, flushed and eye patch askew he swayed before the woman.

"Canths I sthleep in 'ere?" He gestured lamely in a direction he believed the party was in. "Loud."

I eyed him dubiously, wondering if he was capable of making it back to his own quarters (wherever they were) without falling down and breaking his neck. After about ten seconds of observation I decided he wasn't. "It would probably be for the best," I said. "A bit too much to drink, hmm?"

He held up three fingers. "Only two bottlths o' rum." He slurred and tried to judge the distance from himself to the bed as he tried to fix the patch back into place. After a moment he made to move towards it only to end up walking sideways instead. He stared at the bed longingly and wondered why he was further away rather than in it.

"Two bottles?" Only two bottles? Hmm. "Well, you're doing all right for all that." I grasped him firmly by the upper arm and steered him towards the nearest bed. "There you go. Sleep it off and you'll feel just terrible in the morning," I said cheerfully.

"I think the celebration is getting to be a bit too crowded for my own taste, this evening," Qui-Gon said, stepping into the clinic without the usual accompaniment of tea, but with a warming smile nevertheless.

Perhaps he had indulged in a single glass of wine.

The clinic was empty, and when he came to stand beside her, he bent to brush one kiss against her forehead, pleased to find her just where he'd hoped she would be. "I hoped you would appreciate my company," he murmured. Perhaps he lingered for a moment or two after speaking, hoping for a better kiss as well.

"It was a bit crowded for me, as well." I was happy to oblige him with another kiss, my eyebrows rising just a bit at the taste of alcohol. "Lucky for me, I had clinic duty tonight. And as a matter of fact I hoped you'd drop by."

He arched a brow in return, looked not-quite ashamed of himself. "Is that so?" He leaned in, intending another kiss, then paused, distracted by the sight of the bottle, determining that that must be the unfamiliar taste on her lips.

"Should I ask what that is?"

"It's a soft drink," I informed him with a grin, handing him the bottle. "Specifically, Coca-Cola. Carbonated, caffienated, sugared, flavoured water with absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever. It's delicious." I grinned. "Try it."
