Saturday Matinee

There had been film cans on the shelf last night, and Jack wanted something to do out of the sunshine and inevitable work. He picked one at randome and loaded it up, sitting back comfortably as the grainy old movie started. Sweeping music came up witha map of Africa and the actors' names came up in script before the title.

"Oh, I love this movie," she said, smiling as she sat down, folding her legs under her, twisting her hair around her fingers. "It's perfect."

Jack smiled back and didn't move, neither to make room or crowd her. "It's a great film. Make yourself comfortable. I'm Jack."

She leant her cheek against the back of the sofa, knocking a sweet noisly against her front teeth.

She smiled, and held out her hand to him.

"Eostre."

Jack eyed her lips, wondering what might be in there making that noice. "Eostre. There was a goddess named that. Pretty name."

"The Germans wore gray, you wore blue..." The Doctor settled in next to Jack. He'd thought he'd never want to watch a film again, but this one...this one he could deal with. "Can't get enough of the Second World War, can you, Captain Harkness..." He grinned.

((Believe it or not, Rhi has never seen Casablanca.))

"You know me too well, Doctor. It's no Blitz, but then...not much is," he said with a wide smile. "I wish I had my hat, still. That was a good hat."

The Doctor leaned into him a bit. "Yeah, it was. Might get it out of the clothes bin, or something similar. Though it's not made for this weather."

Jack laid his arm over the Doctor's shoulder casually and slouched a little. "Mmm, yeah. And your leather coat. I liked that coat. Fashion here is so...non-existant."

He eyed the white tux and black tie, the suits and shoes. "Good era for clothes then."

Neil paused in the doorway when he saw the movie playing. Casablanca. He sighed. Linda had never been about the old movies, had always preferred to 'read' so she could have her 'book club'. Like she even enjoyed the books.

He wandered inside, wondering if maybe he could just sort of hover and watch, just for a while.

Chris walked in behind his friend, a mango in one hand, the juice stickying in his hand, though he didn't seem to notice. His brow furrowed a little as he squinted over Neil's shoulder at the screen.

"Casablanca?" he murmured, only guessing at that by the very few scenes he'd ever caught back in Long Bay.

Neil glanced over his shoulder, really liking the look of that mango. "I guess," he answered quietly. "I mean, not like we had a movie club."

Catching Neil's longing look at the fruit, Chris pulled off a piece and hand it to him before messily licking at the juice that had trailed down to his wrist. "Yeah, even Jim and I aren't quite that gay," Chris joked, trying to keep his voice low enough so as not to disturb the other people in the room.

"Oooh, Humphrey Bogart. Good choice," Abby said, sticking her head in the door of the rec room when she heard the music start.

[Will be slowtimey for a bit]

"Come watch it!" he said brightly as he motioned to a chair.

"I think I will. Any reason we're visiting Africa during World War II?" she asked idly, curling up in a chair happily and resting her chin on her hand.

Jack nodded at the screen as the voice over explained the route people in occupied France used to try to get to America, most of them finding their way to Casablanca and no farther.

"Because everybody goes to Rick's," he teased.

Angel lingered in the doorframe for a moment before he recognized what was playing on the screen, then actually smiled a little.

That was a great decade. Not one of the ones where he got out much, but he did at least appreciate the fashion of the period.

Maybe he was being a little lurky, still in the shadow of the doorway, but it was kind of habit for him.

Jack knew lurky. He could feel it between his shoulders and up to his hairline and he looked back over his shoulder.

"People will question your upbringing. Come in and sit down, man."

People, Angel thought, would probably be right to question his upbringing. He wasn't sure who was worse, his father or Darla.

But still, he emerged from the shadows and walked into the room, sitting down on the couch. "Didn't mean to intrude," he said. "I just haven't seen this in a while."

Actually, he'd snuck into a theater at night when it had first come out. Damn near cried at the end.

"I'm Jack. Did you like it the first time?"

"That boy who's playing the piano. Who is he?"
