One of the poblano plants has tiny flowers open! Hooray!
And the cilantro has definitely gone to seed. A weird thin green shoot sprouted out of the middle looking like parsley, and now it has white flowers, yet the normal cilantro is still below. It looks like an alien. Or possibly Audrey II. Though I do not remember there being a total eclipse of the sun anytime in the recent past.
I upcycled two skirts last week, and happened across some random mesh in my fabric bin and so made two reusable produce bags, rather than buying the 3 for $7 at Central Market. Budget=not going so well. I don't know how they work yet; I haven't bought produce.
The compost bin has buku gnats and they're getting into the house now. I believe this is because I have forgotten to balance my "green" and "brown." Much green, not so much brown. Time to shred some paper and toss it all in.
Idly looking for a new apartment. There's one in Hyde Park that's absolutely perfect and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it--second floor, blonde wood floors, lots of light, dining room area, patio for plants, walkable to Hyde Park Grill and Fresh Plus--but the rental company wants ridiculous nonrefundable move-in fees, and I just cannot cotton to that. So I have been alternately angry and despondent.
I read that in many states, nonrefundable pet deposits are illegal. Stupid Texas. I also read that when a complex has ridiculous pet deposits and pet rent and stuff, that secretly means they don't want your pets. No kidding. Or maybe that apartment rental companies in a college town are god and want to fleece you as much as they can, because if you can't hack it, there's always some kid whose mommy and daddy are willing to pay the stupid move-in fees without blinking. Bitter? No! Give me my wonderful perfect apartment you bastards!
This is teaching me that I'm better off in my private lease. No faceless rental company. But I have wanderlust and always want something better. Argh.
Yesterday Em and Park brought Charley over to introduce her to swimming. It was super cute and super fun and she was all about the water, until we realized there was a dead bird floating in the pool. That put the kibosh on things right quick. But I still got some cute pictures.
In other news, Ella has stolen both of my hair ties and I don't know where she's hiding them. It's ridiculously hot outside--I need those stupid things!
