After all the upset over Sirius, coming home to a partially caved-in roof and soaked furniture just seemed--fated, perhaps. Something to be expected with the way things normally went, and the only bright side was that it hadn't rained any more in the days it took to stumble upon Jacob at the compound, mention the annoyance to him, and have him coming out (shirtless, as per usual) to climb up and work on patching the hole.
The first thing Remus had done upon returning was bring out all of the ruined books to the narrow porch, where they still sit, soggy stacks of warped pages and hard covers with papery skins felting off. The bed was only damp at this point, but he'd left it in favor of not adding sand to the list of discomforts. And today, as Jacob worked above, he's finally started clearing out the debris: bits of roof and branch that tore through it.
That hole has to be patched before they move back in here--not because of the rain, but because every time he looks at the ragged edges of it, he thinks, that could have been your sodding head, and then he just wants to strangle Sirius. Again.
After a struggle to get the awkward limb out the door and shoving it off the porch, Remus clamors up onto the spartan railing and from there to the narrow eave. The hole wouldn't seem so devastating on a larger roof, but inside is a single room, and up here, he finds there's only so much room for them to maneuver around it. "Aren't you worried you'll get a nasty sunburn," he asks witheringly, wondering if Jacob has some issue with the clothes bin, but doubting it.
