I just watched Gone With the Wind for the first time, and I have to say a lot of problems could have been solved, and the movie drastically shortened, by a judicious threesome.
Interesting. What did you expect GWTW to be like? I saw it for the first time when I was 16, and it wasn't what I expected either (mind you, I saw it in French with no subtitles, so I missed much of the finer detail. Not to mention the fact that I knew next to nothing about the American Civil War, KKK, US race relations, etc. at the time). How is a movie a Grate Romance (TM) when the lovers never consciously manage to be in love with each other at the same time?
I had no idea *how many* times Scarlett got married. Or about the endless angst about Ashley - I vaguely knew he existed, but I thought he just went away early on. Or about the kids.
It was actually totally gripping, even when I was yelling SHUT UP SCARLETT SHUT UP ASHLEY at the screen.
And the movie doesn't even deal with all of her bebbies. It also, if I remember right, doesn't really talk about the stuff she's good at besides being hot and heinous - she's actually kind of a wiz at some things.
She was awesome at working the farm - I liked that bit best. She was much nicer when she couldn't indulge her Scarlett/money/clothes OT3. And then at business, but I will never understand why she had to steal her sister's boyfriend instead of letting them get married and borrowing all her new bro-in-law's money. She wouldn't even have needed to pay it back, because he was a pushover.
I wanted to know what happened to her youngest sister, too. She seemed nice. I didn't mention my theory that the charming-but-heinous/whiny-mean/kind-and-intelligent sister trifecta on Downton Abbey was TOTALLY ripped off GWTW, which makes #3 sister Sybil, so I hope she found a nice revolutionary somewhere.
I can recommend reading the book instead...

I also recommend the book, but the racism in it is . . . I don't know if it's worse, but MM falls over herself justifying it.

My friend N described their relationship as 'two stink people being stink to each other'.
