I just watched Gone With the Wind for the first time, and I have to say a lot of problems could have been solved, and the movie drastically shortened, by a judicious threesome.

Spoilers from the olden tiems )

Interesting. What did you expect GWTW to be like? I saw it for the first time when I was 16, and it wasn't what I expected either (mind you, I saw it in French with no subtitles, so I missed much of the finer detail. Not to mention the fact that I knew next to nothing about the American Civil War, KKK, US race relations, etc. at the time). How is a movie a Grate Romance (TM) when the lovers never consciously manage to be in love with each other at the same time?

I can recommend reading the book instead...

I always figured it was Scarlett's great romance with herself + my romance with ALL OF THE CLOTHES.

I also recommend the book, but the racism in it is . . . I don't know if it's worse, but MM falls over herself justifying it.

THEY WERE SO GORGEOUS. *___*

My friend N described their relationship as 'two stink people being stink to each other'.

The book is full of horrible racism too, but if you want tragic Melanie/Scarlett sub-text, it's there in spades at the end. There's a very explicit scene where Scarlett understands (too late, oh noes) all the things that Melanie has done for her, and emotionally reels as she realises that she'll have to face the future without her. One of the most moving scenes in the book,imo.....

Augh, their love is so tragic. ;_; Melanie would have been so happy if they could have just had a lovely threesome! But nobody appreciated her until too late, not her husband, not her girlfriend...
