"How did they meet?"
"However people meet people."
It was the 3rd floor dayroom of my dorm at the time. I'm not sure, but I was feeling really antisocial that Friday night. I went up to Boise, killed some time at the mall, caught a movie. When I got back, it was around 11 or 12ish. On impulse, I decided to go to the dayroom.
A dayroom is just a central 'hanging out room' in the dorm. Sometimes it just has a tv and some couches. Sometimes there's a pool table and darts, sometimes foosball. Whatever. The first floor dayroom was usually packed with people. Big screen tv and a couple of couches. 2nd floor had a pool table and darts. 3rd floor had a small tv, two chairs, and a ping-pong table. Nobody is ever up there, so if I want to watch comedy central or the history channel, I could usually do it undisturbed (I was too cheap to buy cable). Except tonight it wasn't empty. She was there.
Her name is Andrea. She looks not-unlike Liv Tyler, with a very ceramic-like complextion. She was making a poster of some sort. We made pleasant conversation as she worked on her piece of artwork. She's a surgical tech at the hospital. As I understood it, the doctor asks for a scalpel, and she's the one who hands it to him. The poster is for a parade. Each year, they have a parade in town to celebrate the Air Force's Birthday. Her squadron has a float, and she was supposed to be with it. She has a tattoo, but a very ironic tattoo. Andrea is a very religious girl, with a cross tattoo, but a cross tattoo on her hip. Very sexy. She says her next one is going to be a martini glass.
We say our goodbyes. I'm at the parade the next morning with a buddy, and I see her in the lineup. She's dressed up like a patient (gown, bandage, ect) and she's carrying her sign. The funny thing is that she put so much text on the sign that you can't make out what any of it is because you don't have time to read all of it. Oh sweet irony.
I started playing music at the base chapel. A few months later, she joined our music group as a singer. She's got an awesome voice. We were in that group together for about two years. Another funny thing about it: she would usually dress me Sunday mornings. Not literally, but she pretty much knew what I had in my wardrobe, and would tell me what I should wear. She had good taste, too.
Same as the Persian girl, we never did date. Hung out a bit, but never anything serious.
Always
