Lady the Kitty

I now have a little kitty cat!

Actually, she is not exactly mine. I am fostering her, on behalf of a few people in the community who take it upon themselves to rescue pregnant and nursing cats and find homes for them and their kittens, after providing them with all the essential vet care and getting them spayed. So now, "Lady" is living with me. She arrived this morning with all of her toys, food, litter and other supplies, so I really don't have to do anything except lavish attention on her. She is SO much more interested in me than my former pet, Pippin was (to say nothing of Thales the goldfish, who really didn't even know I existed). Lady hasn't even been here two hours and she already seems to want to be in whatever room I am in. So right now, she's exploring the main room while I type this, even though all of her stuff is in the kitchen. I'm going to close the door to this room when I'm not in the apartment to avoid getting the furniture scratched up in here or having her all tangled in computer and lamp-cord wires, but she will still have the run of the hallway and the kitchen, which is more than enough space for a small cat like her. Poor little mite, she's barely a year old and quite thin from having lived outdoors and nursing her kittens. The woman who brought her over said she has been just leaving a full food bowl out for her all the time in an effort to fatten her up. So far, she hasn't eaten anything though because she's been too busy exploring.

I only hope I won't get too attached, because then I will be quite sad when she goes. Still, it will be sort of bitter-sweet I guess, since she will be going to a new home. It won't be as though she died. And then, I will probably have the opportunity to foster another cat for the Backyard Friends (as they call themselves).
