Well, so far this has already been a very eventful year for the Internet, hasn't it? I have a lot of feelings on the Internet and piracy (which mostly come from the time I desperately tried to buy due South DVDs and was unable to because of region codes) but that's a subject for another post. Maybe.
Anyway, I've been reading up on ACTA today, which has kind of freaked me out. <.< In an attempt to guilt-trip myself into writing an e-mail to the German members of the EU parliament (I'm honestly a bit terrified about doing that! I mean, they're government officials and everything!), here are some links:
La Quadrature du net has lots of info on ACTA and actually tells you which people you should contact and what to say.
This is a list of members in one of the relevant committees, complete with phone numbers and a-mail addresses.
And last but not least a German site, because I don't trust myself to properly translate all the arguments.
Right then, on to the fun part! Have some recs for X-men, Harry Potter and Sherlock:
Boden's Mate by kaydeefalls: X-Men: First Class, Erik/Charles The most amazing XM:FC/Inception fusion ever. Are there even any other ones? I don't know and I honestly don't care, because this one is perfect. Perfect and long and just really, really good, with just the right amount of Angst. The author is currently writing a sequel, which is apparently going to include my second XM:FC OTP, Alex/Hank. Yay! :D
Limited Release by rageprufrock: XM:FC, Erik/Charles, pre-Alex/Hank In case you hadn't noticed, I love AUs, and this is a FBI-AU of epic proportions. I really liked the back stories in this fic, as well as the friendship between Alex and Hank. The case itself, i.e. the search for Shaw and Scott, is very well done and gripping, too - I don't think I stopped reading this story once (Which is somewhat unusual for me when it comes to long fics. I'm just very easily distracted.).
A Day in the Life of Draco Malfoy, Image Manager
by songquake: Harry Potter, Harry/Draco One of the shorter stories to come out of the hd_holiday exchange, this is the kind of epilogue-compliant story I'd like to see more of. Not that I had a lot of interest in epilogue-compliant stories before reading this, mind you, seeing as I tend to ignore the epilogue entirely. Must have learned that tactic from watching Digimon, I guess.
Anyway. In this story, Draco is the solicitor of the Potter family, which I think is a very clever concept. Aside from that, I really liked the humor and the portrayal of Harry's kids.
Level 65 Paladin Looking for Group by etothepii: Sherlock, gen Slightly AU. John and Sherlock meet through an online game (WoW? I have no idea.) and eventually become friends in real life. I don't know much about this kind of online games, but the in-game interaction was great, and somehow the thought of Sherlock playing this with Lestrade and everyone else is very amusing to me.
The Skeleton Winter by branwyn: Sherlock, Sherlock/Joanna Genderswap case!fic! Apparently this is loosely based on an actual Sherlock Holmes story, but then I've never read any of those, so I don't know how closely this fic follows it. In any case, this a great mystery, though I'd advice you to mind the warnings. What makes this fic interesting, aside from the plot, is the exploration of Joanna's character and mind, as well as her relationship with Sherlock. A sequel is in progress right now.
