Because of cylone #2 which seems to be just happy hanging out at the Great Barrier Reef, my would-have-been diving trip is a no-go. The dive club was offering to either give people a full refund or to wait and see if the trip would go on despite the weather. After thinking about it and having some ugly flashbacks from two weeks ago I decided that I wanted nothing to do with another dive trip in rocky/cyclone weather and asked for my money back. I still am not sure whether or not I regret the decision. The dive trip got postponed to next weekend, which I could have done, but I have a lot of papers coming up and such so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to take off on a trip when I should be working. Oh well, the decision has made, and now I have $450 dollars to spend =). I already know that I'm going to use 200 of it to go on a "make up" dive trip in May. Since I was supposed to go to the Yongala shipwreck this weekend and I can't, I figure I'll just do a day trip in a month or two and then I won't feel like I missed out. Besides, at least with day trip I'll just be swimming around and looking at stuff, not practicing dive skills which I would have been doing if this weekend went as planned.
In a way, this cancellation also works out because for the first time since I came to Australia in February I have a free weekend...nothing to do, nowhere to go, and all the R&R I want. After almost two months of going non-stop, I really needed a break and some time to rest and catch up on school assignments. Who knows, if I get enough done I may treat myself to some time on the beach...good times.
Some other happy news, while I get the next few weekends to relax, that doesn't mean I'm letting myself rest in the long run. I started planning activities for the month of May and things are looking good =). My friend Amy invited me to go to Brisbane with her to visit the Australian Zoo on Mother's Day weekend....and you know who works there....Steve Irwin! Oh yeah! Haha, we're both big Croc Hunter fans, and since it's a gaurantee that he'll be there that weekend we are DYING to go. I also got word from my parents that for my birthday they are sending me to Fiji in June. I could've died happy, I've been wanting to go there forever! But since I'm not going to Fiji for my actual birthday in April, I've been planning my 21st birthday this weekend. I'm so excited....April 28th is another Dive Club Pub Crawl (expect fun pictures lol), 29th we drive up to Cairns and while Amy bungee jumps, Sam, myself and Jacki are going to do a zip-cord thing through the rainforest. On my actual birthday we'll be white water rafting, and the day after my birthday we'll be spending our time at the Aboriginal Park. So, so so so excited. At first I was sad that I was going to be turning 21 in Australia away from friends and family, but damn....the 4 day marathon of fun stuff will probably never be topped. Can't wait!
Anyway, the next week or two should be peaceful, but that's all the stuff that's in the works at the moment. Cheers! =)
