48 Hour Film Project - epilogue

Jul 29, 2006 22:17

I'm contemplating the public screening of my two entire minutes of fame with a weird mixture of horror and intense curiosity; I have yet to see the finished product. My character was not a likeable one (hell, I wanted to take her out back and beat the crap out of her), and in this seven-minute film we see her at her ickiest. Also, the part called for some raw emotion, which made me feel really exposed. Very personal stuff. And it would be screened for three nights in a row in Asheville and finally judged - and eventually distributed on DVDs - at least among the cast. Oh yeah - I nearly forgot the part where it gets added to the 2006 48 Hour Film Project Asheville compilation DVD. (Excuse me while I curl up in a fetal ball in the corner over here.)

(I won't be able to comment on the other performances until I finally get to see the film!)

I called Sam on Friday morning to see how we did at the awards ceremony. Out of the 34 original Asheville teams, only 32 films actually made it into to the competition. Ours won the awards for best acting (Mike as Sid Dionne) and best use of character. She said the film was well received and that my performance only received bad remarks from two bitchy older ladies (blow me) who probably thought they could do better (be my guest), and that it was probably a sour grapes thing (whatever).

I told her about having seen some of the other entries online. They’d been uploaded to YouTube or similar and linked to the 48 Hour Film Project’s Asheville blog page, which is a charming mix of warm fuzzies and bitching. Sam will be mentioning this to Chris, so “King of the Wooden Heart” will eventually end up online.

Here (in no particular order) are links to films from the competition that have been uploaded thus far and the awards results:

"The Naked Truth" (mockumentary) by Flowersfilms Productions
Funny as hell.
Awards: Group B Audience Favourite, Best Monologue.

Had some decent moments and some parts are painful to watch, but that was the point.
Awards: Best Film Runner Up, Best Script, Best Choreography, Best Line of Dialogue

"A Fairy’s Tale 2: the Domareckoning” by Blank Slate (genre unknown)
Everything but the kitchen sink. Lots of yelling. Dead clowns. Bedlam.

"Loose Ends" (cop/detective film) by Team Whiplash
OK/Kinda weird.
Awards: Group C Audience Favourite (Tie)

Awards: Best Film, Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design

"Human Relationships" (mockumentary) by Combustion Films
Adorable fledgling film team. Awesome use of the puppet prop and the line of dialogue.
