Full house

Gavin moved in the last of his stuff last night.  Since his apartment was just up the street he didn't have to get too technical about packing.  So we now have lots of loose stuff all over the house.  The Plan is to get more boxes and carefully pack and label anything he won't need to use for the next year and store it in the garage or in Gary's Mom's attic and/or garage.  In the meantime, kitchen is full.  Garage is full.  Parlour is full.  *sigh* And we now have a dog.  He's the Best Dog in the World, but omg dog hair.  I hate vacuuming.  Hate.  *sigh*

Meanwhile Gary's Mom was staying over for a few days while going in for pre-op appointment, then eye surgery at Duke, which seems to have gone well.  And Connor has been staying at our place since Tuesday for Spring break, with driving him to Raleigh for lacrosse practices and games nearly every day last week.

This week is Spring break for Gavin too, which you'd think would be the perfect time for him to get his stuff sorted out, but that just means he's teaching extra classes.  We've all been extra weary from the week.  Last night it was making me tired just thinking about it, but getting a few decent hours of sleep seems to have helped.  We've already been through all the kitchen drawers and cupboards and have either trashed, recycled or donated a bunch of stuff we've been meaning to get rid of for years.

I was bummed out at first about losing my office, but I was only using a little corner of it, and the master bedroom actually looks better with more stuff in here.  I'm on the lookout for some wall shelves to help with space and add some interest to the walls.  I can finally start printing photos and using the pile of picture frames I'd been buying but never got around to using.

Oh, yeah - and it's billing week.  For once, work has been practically stress-free.  All my work in overhauling my job is finally paying off.  I got out all but 7 of my 35 sets of reports and (manually generated) prelim bills out for review in less than two days, which is incredible.  My counterpart in DC (one of the two FM's up there that has a clue and actually works for a living) has been on vacation all week and I'm still on top if it.  Go me!

My biggest problem at work right now is figuring out how to stop working.  I think all the hoo-ha with Gavin's move-in is coming at the right time.  Work is stable and all the moving and shifting should reboot my nesting instinct, so painting, decorating and sewing will follow.

family, work, home, gavin
