The Doctor had been hoping he would be able to just... be by himself for a while. Things to be done in the TARDIS, after all, plenty of repairs to be made. Once the major repairs were made, though...
It was supposed to be a quick trip, just to make sure everything was in order. And then the TARDIS shook, mid-flight, bucked and twisted and jumped sideways out of the time stream, and he couldn't quite fix it, just hold on until it - well, landed is a kind word for it. Crashed is more appropriate.
He tumbles to the floor, probably collecting a few bruises in the process, and then springs to his feet to check the screens. "What was all that about?" he asks the TARDIS, sounding just a little offended. Even with the damage done on that Dalek ship, there was no reason something like that should be happening, and...
All systems appear normal. Well, all systems appear normal except that the coordinates aren't coming up quite right - the information on the screen keeps changing, cycling through locations and time periods nowhere near each other and some of them not even places he possibly could have landed... That's encouraging. In the way that's really... not.
Nothing else for it, then. He pushes himself away from the console, grabs his coat off a railing, and saunters out the door. "Let's see where we are then, shall we?" If he just keeps talking like there's someone there to talk to, maybe it won't be so...

One benefit of being around that planet so often is that he recognizes it within seconds. "Twenty-first century, even. That's... well, actually, that's a little worrying." Every time he ends up in this time period, there's always something...
