fandom meme. because I was feeling opinionated today

May 03, 2008 13:05

and this was the least obnoxious way to foist it upon the world.

yoinked from all over, but most recently from steph and casey.

1. Newest Fandom:

well. hahaha. really the *last* last new thing I leeched off of for a week or so was West Wing Josh/Sam, but there ain't a whole lot of that, so. I don't think that satisfies the spirit of the question.

CW then, I guess. I'm experiencing this dilemma recently where I've been lurking that fandom and enjoying the hell out of the freedom of that, but now I'm playing around with writing it, and even though most of it hasn't made it off my hard drive yet, I have guilt for lurking now. like I'm asking for something for nothing. so. fuck. I guess I'm going to have to start actually INTERACTING with people again. virtual people, that is. *pouts*

damn conscience and sense of fandom ethics.

2. Oldest Fandom:

uh. well, I discovered fandom...the institution, the creative body of work...with Buffy, a good while back. though it took a long time for me to make myself known.

but I've always been fannishly devoted about every damn tv show or movie I've ever loved, so. earliest? I guess. *thinks* I used to fangirl Thundercats, when I was a wee one, though I don't remember much about it now.

OH. OH MY GOD. He-Man. I used to ride my little spring horse with my cardboard-covered-in-foil sword and declare that I was He-Man, master of the universe, and when my mom tried to tell me maybe I was She-Ra, I pouted. my sister likes to say I was unfettered by society's attempts to imprint the gender roles.

also, Labyrinth. at the ripe old age of 4, I wanted David Bowie to steal me away and possibly do dirty things to me. in a way I didn't recognize yet, as I was 4. I just knew that the idea of being held captive by someone with big boots and a switch made me feel all warm and excited (no seriously. I'm being 100% serious right now)

sidenote, as an adult I rewatched and was like, holy crap, do they let people wave their crotch around like that in a kid's movie? not to mention....riding crop? REALLY? I think it takes that second-level of meaning kids' movies have for the parents to a whole other plane of existence.

3. Favorite Fandom:

Buffy will probably always feel like home. all other fandoms feel too. monochromatic to me. limiting.

4. Guilty Pleasure Fandom:

um. aren't they all a guilty pleasure? I mean, the whole shebang?

seriously, I just tried to pick one, but the problem is, nothing makes me feel guilty. I guess, for a while there I was devouring a lot of Dean/ofc and a lot of it was Mary Sue and I just didn't care, haha. if the characterization of Dean is good then I can put up with some obnoxious original character traits, though obviously I have my limits. the draw is mostly Dean. not like, let me pretend Dean is making sweet sweet love to ME AND NO ONE ELSE, but like. glimpses into how he dealt when he started hunting alone, or how he approached the world when he was younger, or the kind of man he might turn out to be if given the opportunity to lay down arms and rest for a while.

not that you don't get that with Wincest sometimes, but I have a kink for reading about the boys as *brothers*, who don't fuck. so. Wincest doesn't give me that :)

5. OTP:

I have favorite pairings in all my fandoms, obviously, but there aren't very many that I would consider otp. Angel/Spike, obviously. I loved that pairing so instantly and so much that it made the term otp kind of sacred, and I never thought I'd find that feeling again (*snorfles*) but then there was

Chris/Jensen. seriously. draw a huge humongous heart around their names.

to a degree that I never experienced with spangel, actually. I've never had a hard time being multi-pairing in Buffy. I don't think it's the nature of the boys to be exclusive with one another, to want to be, or for it to even occur to them. so in my world, they fuck and love other people. but in the end it always circles back around to them, in one permutation or another. when I read other pairings, I just think, it was Spike and Angel before this, and eventually they'll be stuck with one another again, and this is a happy interlude elsewhere. the whole immortality thing makes that easier, I guess.

but when I'm reading a j2 fic where the Chris/Jensen friendship is well-written, and god help me, if there is UST, a very petty part of myself wants to bludgeon jared to death so Chris can comfort Jensen and we can move on with the real show.

and then I reel myself back from the precipice of insanity, because seriously, I'm never going to be one of THOSE people. you know, the crazycakes people. not if I can help it. and I like j2 well enough, and it's not at all jared's fault that he's cockblocking my otp all the time :)

anyway, I think those are the only two I'd call otp, though Jeff/Jensen is damn close. it's perfection, but it doesn't create that visceral reaction for me. it's fodder for my brains and, you know...loins, rather than my big throbbing veiny. heart. what did you think I was gonna say? pervert.

someday I will write Jeff/Jensen/Chris so I can have my cake and eat it too.

oh crap, how could I forget Jon/Stephen? but that's mostly in jest. 99.9%

6. OT3:

um. POTC Jack/Will/Elizabeth? I really only read in that fandom if I find ot3 fic and my brain insists it's all or none with those guys, so I guess that qualifies.

7. Worst Pairing Ever:

um. I don't have a whole lot of pairing hate, in any fandom. but for the most part, I'd rather gouge my own eyes out than read anything with any of the geek squad from Bs5, even if they're just a plot device. worst.bigbad.ever. I liked Jonathon in high school, though. Andrew has his endearing moments. Warren...is Warren, I guess. but when you put all three of them together, I want to jump off a cliff.

8. Wankiest Fandom:

*shrugs* all of them? can that be an answer?

9. I'd Like to Find a Fandom For:

um. there are things I wish I could find more of, or things that I wish were written by someone with a brain and some talent, but I don't think there's anything I've ever wanted that didn't have some kind of fandom somewhere. I'm not very obscure like that.

ETA: OH! OH! Oz. :)

10. I Wouldn't Touch This Fandom For All the Money in the World:

HARRY POTTER. JESUS CHRIST.

and no, I will not ever read the books. you can't make me. *fingers in ears lalalalalalalala*

I also have certain feelings about Smallville, which is again a personal grudge-match from insta-resentment that the show existed. I have no idea why, I was just bitter that they had high school AU'd Superman.

but I hear some pretty cool people love it. *eyes Kari skeptically*

11. Any Literary Fandoms:

I've read a few crossovers with Gaiman's Sandman, but whether that's literary or not depends who you ask.

12. Any Bandoms:

hell no. I'd rather shove an instrument into the hands of Spike, Xander and Angel, shoot them full of drugs, and throw a handful of condoms at them. we all wake up happy in the morning. though some of us, more sore than others.

13. Any Gamer Fandoms:

um, no. I wouldn't know one if it hit me in the face.

14. I Miss This Fandom:

*shrugs* I haven't been in the game long enough and/or don't have a short enough attention span to miss a fandom yet. I tend to collect things, rather than get tired of them and move on permanently.

15. I'm Glad This Fandom Is Gone:

um. yeah I got nothin. if JK Rowling could have been smothered at birth, that would've been awesome. failing that. nope.

ETA: one last question I'm adding on for my own personal uh. posterity-recording I guess, is a list of my fandoms at this point in time. obviously I haven't written in all of them. mostly in the order that I mentally adopted them.

Buffy/Angel
WB rps (the old crew)
POTC
Bones, though it's been a while
Daily Show. yes, there is fic. yes, it's political and spoofy. no, I'm not ashamed in the slightest.
QaF
Oz, though I've never actually read in it.
spn, mostly gen flashback winchester family fic because <3<3<3
CW, mostly minor pairings, and I get a kick out of j2 if it's AU or has some sort of novel twist
Battlestar Galactica
West Wing
Firefly
Dexter
