I want to tell everyone how great my 4th of July was.
Though I'm sure there must have been more in my life, I only remember two previous times that I really watched any of the big fireworks displays. The first was the summer I was 19, I sat out at the fairgrounds with some friends, and I remember watching and being amazed and awed, but feeling lonely. I was watching this beautiful thing, and I wanted somebody to really share it with. I wanted arms around me, keeping the slight chill in the wind away. I wanted someone to kiss, sitting there in the dark, with so many friends and strangers. The second time I think I'll skip talking about, it's only memorable in that it was thoroughly disappointing, and if ya'll wanted something depressing to read, you'd pick up a newspaper.
I hung out with Darius and his family, we had a fabulous dinner and then found a grassy spot in a park to hang out and watch the fireworks. All told, last night was amazing. It was everything I wanted so many years ago, and it was more.
Also, there was pie.
