Movie & a meme!

Well, I just saw Miracle at St. Anna, which....wow. Just....wow. My mom says, "Think shades of Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List, and you've got Miracle at St. Anna."
It's getting burned by critics, and I will admit there were some flaws (really long, structurally confusing) but it had its powerful moments and I loved the acting. I wasn't prepared for how hard to watch it would be, so if you're thinking of seeing it, I'd reccommend going right back in to the theatre and seeing Pineapple Express to get you in a better mood. My violence and sad-o-meters are maxed out. xD

Fromvorpaleris :

[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
We'll see.

[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Not interested, to put it simply. Trust me, I could get some pretty easily if I wanted, probably even get away with it, but I don't. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't do drugs, not just because two of the three aren't legal for me (drugs aren't for anyone, anyway), but because it's not for me.

[03] Abortion: for or against it?
This is a loaded question for me. I guess, personally, I'm a pro-life. Now, before you start throwing stones at me and yelling about feminism, let me say that I will always, always vote pro-choice--I don't believe it's my business, or the government's, to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her body. I don't look down on women who have abortions, or think they're bad people--they have lives to lead and decisions to make and I understand that.

I don't think aboriton should be used as birth control. That bothers me. You choose to have sex, then you choose to potentially become pregnant. I do understand people make mistakes. I do understand there are shades of grey. I do.

But I could never have an abortion--I just couldn't. It wouldn't matter if I got pregnant tomorrow and had to put my life on hold. I would stay pregnant and have the baby, probably even keep it. Some people see a cluster of cells, I see a life. I don't think one view or another is wrong; I just...hmm. I don't think I'm articulating it well. Blah, I'll move on, and if people want to debate in the comments, feel free lol. Maybe then I'll actually make a coherent point. xD

[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Uh, no. That's ridiculous.

[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
Not to go totally fangirly on a very serious issue, but I think sometimes the US government is a bit like Voldemort in the sense that they still think there's nothing worse than death.

The world has come along way from Hammurabi's Code. I think it's time to go back to what we were always told in kindergarten: two wrongs don't make a right.

[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. Good God, there are worse things in the world than people getting high, and too many lives are being ruined because of it. If they want to, let them do it, and enforce the same strict taxes and penalites as for cigarettes and drunk driving.

[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
Who gives a damn? Have sex when you're ready. It's natural, not evil, or a sin, or something to be preserved for a sacred union.

[08] Do you believe in God?
I don't believe in the God of the Christian Bible. I don't believe in the God who loves everybody unless they're gay or have premaritial sex or this or that or blahblahblah. I believe there is something more, because simply put, life would be too hard not too, but I'm not sure what that something more is. It's not a big white guy sitting up in the clouds and shooting down lightning bolts and sending people to Hell, that's for sure.

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Damn straight. I could go on and on and on about this, but basically, love is love. Marriage is about commitment and family and most importantly, love, so for God's sake, let people be who they are and love who they love and if you don't like it, then deal. Prejudice is prejudice, and I'm sorry, but the United States (and obviously, a lot of other countries) are chock full of it.

[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Ugh. I don't really know. This is kind of a touchy subject--and not one I'm sure I have enough knowledge about to discuss. I think I'll paass.

[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
No way. Give it up for adoption. A twelve-year-old is not equipped to raise a child.

[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
You know, I can get married, vote, smoke, order stuff of those infomercials, have a credit card, and die for my country, but I can't be trusted to be responsible enough to have a drink. Something seems a little off with that.

[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Duh.

[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Yes.

Medical euthanasia is entirely different.

[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
No, not really. Words do a lot more, in my experience at least. I learned the best lessons from my parents' long, sordid lectures, loath as I am to admit it. I couldn't see myself spanking a child, though I suppose most parents reach a point where they really do just want to smack their kid upside the head or something.

[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Sure. That doesn't mean I'm a bad American, that means I need some easy cash.

[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Hmmm, good question. I'm voting for Obama, but I'm not gonna burst into tears if McCain wins. I think what we really need is change, and either way, we're going to get some.

[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
A little, but I've never really been afraid to speak up about what I believe in, and that's not changing anytime soon. :]
And now: dinner. :D
