Life Is Dot Dot Dot

A quote from one of my favorite movies - It’s all gone Pete tong. Frankie Wilde is trying to describe Ibiza, Spain and says “Ibiza is dot dot dot.”

Work is…
I have a really wonderful job that I enjoy doing with a spectacular boss. He and I have worked together for close to 7 years now, he was a partner at the engineering firm I worked at for 5 years. After I was laid off in December of 2008 he offered me a job and here I am. I know how he works and what he expects and he knows how I work and the quality of the work that I do. My company, despite economic downturn especially in the construction industry has managed to come out just fine and in fact we are building a new building!

My friends are…
Never in my life have I experienced the level of friendship that I am so fortunate to have now. Our group of friends form a cooperative of like minded, fun, genuine, hilarious, forward thinking individuals. I cannot believe what I have done in the world to deserve them; as a result I could never and will never take them for granted.

I have a really incredible boyfriend. Though my last LJ entry was about him and my goodness it was pretty pathetic, in the 2 years I’ve known him we have had some serious ups & downs but he continues to wow me. I hate valentine’s day (hey isn’t that a movie?) however Jon ignored my pleas to just treat it like a normal day and created the most beautiful scene-from-a-movie like experience and totally stole my heart. He is the one I want to talk to when something happy happens and when things not so happy happen.

Family is…
Changing but in all good ways. My brother & his wife (also one of my very close friends) moved to San Francisco. I feel like it is really their natural habitat more than Phoenix ever could have been. I visited them last weekend and had the pleasure of experiencing the city for the first time with them. We walked & walked & walked some more. Through the park, through some touristy areas, all over. I LOVE it there! My sister & her husband were in a really terrible rollover accident last summer. Fortunately no one was seriously injured (my sister broke her collar bone & my brother in law sliced open his hand & tore ligaments which required surgery) but afterwards my sister asked if I would be her children’s godmother. I accepted without reservation.

My mum, sister and I are taking a trip to Virginia in May to visit my grandmother. She is my last living grandparent and I haven’t seen her since I was in the 4th grade. I am really excited about seeing her and my mum’s family in VA but also for the bonding experience with my mum & sister.

I am…
Well I have decided its better late than never to get myself into shape. My treadmill gets regular use as well as many walk/jogs around the neighborhood, bike rides and swimming laps @ Kiwanis pool. I am paying better attention to what I put in my body. Not to say that I don’t splurge occasionally but it’s interesting what you choose to eat & not eat after you’ve looked at the nutrition facts. I have signed up for a mini triathlon in April. I need to have a goal to keep going so this seemed like the best way.

Since having my tonsils out almost a year ago I have experienced wellness that I don't recall ever having in my lifetime. I never realized how much being sick every other month really took away from my lifestyle. I am so thankful for my health!

Now the big news, I have been in contact with a humanitarian aid organization called Clean Water for Haiti about moving there to work with them. If everything goes as planned I will move there in December and stay for at least one year. I have begun learning French and my best friend Josh is going to re-teach me to play guitar. I remember from going to orphanages in Mexico that a language barrier makes it difficult to interact but when you add music it has a unifying effect.

So Life Is Dot Dot Dot - I think what comes after that is Whatever I Decide To Make Of It.
