Over the last couple of days I've been looking to see what jobs doth abound. The reason for this you ask? Well, early this year I took a new position within my company and did not get a raise for added responsibilities, for the last 6 months I've been told that as a company raises are only given once a year, and that it would be made right come bonus time. Well that time has come, I suppose I shouldn't complain about getting a bonus, but it was disappointing to get the same amount that I got last year. Which leads me to believe when raises are announced in 2 weeks, I'll be getting nothing more than the token raise. Needless to say this displeases me, so the job hunt.
This brings me to the quandary....I've found several positions, that I have the background for and would likely enjoy, but I'm not sure if I should really pursue them for a variety of reasons, the first and foremost is the industry in which they are in....the airlines.... I guess I'm still somewhat sore from getting hired and laid off in the same day last year with Northwest Airlines.
These are the jobs I've seen that have piqued my interests:
Continental Airlines: Sales Manager - A home office based position, but the territory is on the west coast based out of their San Francisco office. Average pay for this is $40K-$50K, can Senny and I afford to live anywhere on the west coast for that amount of money and still pay our debts off? Also if I advance in the company, they are based in Houston....home state of the Bush Dynasty... I would likely end up there.
American Airlines: Training Developer - Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the size of they city, cost of living and most of the demographics closely parallels that of Knoxville, slightly more expensive than Knoxville. If I could get $35K there it would be comparable to what I'm getting now. Is that enough to justify a move? And I would have the same issue as before, based in Fort Worth, Texas.
Alaska Airlines: Hub Airport Customer Service Manager - in Seattle, Washington. This is the same job Northwest hired, and fired, me for, I doubt I would have any difficulty getting it, but they are offering only $30K. Is that enough for Seattle? I don't know, I've never been there or really known someone who has lived there. For the size of the city, I have a feeling that we wouldn't be very comfortable at that level.
Delta Air Lines: They have several positions open in Atlanta that I find very appealing. Problem, they are still in bankruptcy and there is still a chance that their creditors might choose to pursue US Airways' hostile bid to take them over, though that is less likely as each day goes by. A plus is Atlanta is close enough that I could commute easily enough, either through long days of catching the first flight down in the morning and coming home after work or joining up with one of the 100's of crash pads down there like most of the pilots and flight attendants who live here and are based there.
Argh, I'm not sure what to do. Any one have any insight?
Oh, before I forget. Happy Holidays everyone. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and Christmas if that is your thing.
